Job description

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports both front-office and back-office operations within a pain management practice. This role is responsible for delivering excellent patient service, assisting providers with clinical procedures, coordinating care, and ensuring efficient daily workflow. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, empathetic, and experienced in both administrative and clinical healthcare functions.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties

  • Greet patients and provide a welcoming environment
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, procedures, and follow-ups
  • Manage incoming calls and patient communications
  • Maintain accurate medical records in eClinicalWorks
  • Verify patient demographics and obtain authorizations
  • Scan, upload, and manage patient documents
  • Coordinate physician referrals, imaging, and outside records requests
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and practice policies

Clinical Duties

  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and injections
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical history, and pain levels
  • Assist providers during exams and interventional pain procedures
  • Perform urine drug screens and specimen handling per protocol
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment
  • Prepare procedure rooms, supplies, and instruments
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and post-procedure care
  • Assist with prescription processing and prior authorizations
  • Monitor and restock medical supplies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in pain management, orthopedics, or related specialty preferred
  • Knowledge of pain management treatments (e.g., injections, medication management) is a plus
  • Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW)
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and patient service skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and medical compliance standards
