A day in the life....

The Server takes orders and delivers food and beverages while ensuring an excellent guest experience. This role is responsible for all billing and payment processing.


Reports to: Manager

Job Tasks:

  • Prepare tables, including the setup of linens, silverware, and glassware.
  • Perform light food preparation, including bread, salads, appetizers, and dessert presentation.
  • Greet guests professionally and provide detailed information regarding menu items, ingredients, and cooking methods.
  • Inform customers of daily specials.
  • Verify food and beverage quality and presentation before serving.
  • Serve food and beverages to guests, including tableside preparation as required.
  • Check identification to ensure guests meet minimum age requirements for alcohol consumption.
  • Provide wine recommendations and utilize proper corkage and pouring techniques.
  • Process guest payments and transactions.
  • Clear and clean tables promptly according to sanitation standards.
  • Complete side duties, including polishing silverware, restaurant setup, and replenishing condiments.

  • Sales Techniques and Customer Influence: Use sales techniques and persuasive communications to up-sell products and services.
  • Problem Solving and Conflict Management: Must recognize a problem when it arises and be able to resolve it appropriately by using good judgement, tact and initiative according to company policy and procedure.
  • Customer Service: Must consistently be able to assess, anticipate and meet multiple guests’ needs at high quality standards and evaluate customer satisfaction without projecting a mood that detracts from guests’ experience. Must balance guest needs with those of guests served by pub. This requires practical knowledge of industry customer service standards.
  • Communication: Must clearly communicate in a professional manner with guests, vendors, coworkers and management. The ability to promote two-way communication by presenting clear ideas using thoughtful and responsive words. Nonverbal cues from a guest can alert the server to a potential problem. Must also understand instructions, read written company memorandums and communicate when he or she needs more direction.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Must adapt to different personalities of guests and coworkers without losing focus. Extreme familiarity or conflicts with coworkers often weaken a team-oriented work environment.
  • Initiative: Must take action frequently, collaborate with team members and develop new ideas that focus on results.
  • Time Management Skills: Must utilize methods and organization techniques in a fast-paced environment to ensure efficiency and respect the time of others. Bartenders must be able to direct others, such as bar backs and bussers, to maximize efficiency and team work.
  • Flexibility: Often work overtime, when needed, and assist the workload of others.
