Job description


OVERVIEW
Join Vertiv as a Controls Engineer and play a key role in designing and delivering intelligent control systems that power mission-critical infrastructure. From pre-sales through commissioning, you'll lead the development of FMS/BMS solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners, and ensure systems are optimized for performance, quality, and compliance. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Serve as the Controls Engineer on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning stage.
  2. Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
  3. Design optimal FMS/BMS design in compliance with the customer's requirements and specifications.
  4. Work with 3rd party suppliers to design the control schemes for their equipment, utilizing PLCs and/or relays, to accomplish the overall FMS/BMS designs.
  5. Generation of bills of material, and modification of standard assemblies as required to satisfy the application.
  6. Familiarity with various Ethernet protocols including Modbus, SNMP and TCP/IP communications protocols, as well as RS-485 and Ethernet interfaces.
  7. Manage and Support contracted integration companies to provide a detailed Schematic Design(SD), Detail Design(DD) and Construction Drawing(CD) narrative for FMS/BMS design aspects of the solution
  8. Collaborate with other disciplines and external partners - General contractors or architects to create a construction document set.
  9. Work with Vertiv's business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate BMS and controls equipment.
  10. Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
  11. Review and approve FMS/BMS product submittals.
  12. Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.
  13. Quality control during integration of FMS/BMS systems
  14. Support for all on site integration support

  16. Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation and performance of FMS/BMS systems.
  17. Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, FMS/BMS systems audits and start-up as needed.
  18. Offer creative, out of the box solutions to the customer.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or possess acceptable experience and subject knowledge
  2. Professional engineering (PE) License - optional
  3. Minimum 4 years of Controls Engineering experience
  4. Knowledge of FMS/BMS design concepts, installation, and use
  5. Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes governing the installation and use of FMS/BMS control requirements.
  6. Working knowledge in AutoDesk suite of Engineering software including AutoCAD and Revit
  7. Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications
  8. Experience reading and interpreting modular construction drawings and equipment specifications
  9. Interpreting customer specification requirements.
  10. Have the ability to research new designs, technologies and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
  11. Ability to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability or maintainability.
  12. Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  13. Must be detail oriented.
  14. Proven leadership and problem solving skills.
  15. Proven Project Management skills
