What does a B2B SaaS sales engineer do?

A B2B SaaS Sales Engineer acts as a technical expert during the sales process for business-to-business software-as-a-service products. They work closely with sales teams and potential clients to understand customer needs, demonstrate product capabilities, and address technical concerns. Their role bridges the gap between technical product features and business value, often providing product demos, technical documentation, and solution architecture advice. They also assist in onboarding new clients and ensuring a smooth transition from sales to implementation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a B2B SaaS sales engineer?

To thrive as a B2B SaaS Sales Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software solutions, technical sales processes, and domain expertise, typically backed by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems (like Salesforce), demo platforms, API integrations, and relevant SaaS tools is essential. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders are crucial soft skills. These skills enable effective client engagement, successful solution delivery, and the ability to drive sales in competitive B2B SaaS environments.

How does a B2B SaaS sales engineer typically collaborate with sales and product teams during the sales cycle?

Collaboration with the product team is also common, as you relay customer feedback, provide insights on feature requests, and help shape product roadmaps. This cross-functional teamwork ensures that both the sales process and product offerings align with customer expectations, making your role both dynamic and central to the company’s growth.

Job description

Austin, TX, USA (remote-friendly) Full-time 4+ years $110,000–140,000 gross

We are looking for a Product Owner to run discovery and delivery for B2B SaaS products — translating business goals into a ranked, testable backlog for our engineering teams.

  • Own the product backlog: discovery, prioritization, refinement, and acceptance.
  • Turn client business goals into clear, testable requirements and user stories.
  • Run sprint ceremonies and keep delivery aligned with measurable outcomes.
  • Act as the primary product voice between stakeholders and the engineering team.
02 What we expect
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager on B2B software.
  • Strong discovery skills: interviews, workflows, data-informed prioritization.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; comfort with US-based stakeholders.
  • Technical fluency — you can challenge estimates and understand trade-offs.
03 Nice to have
  • Experience with AI-enabled products or data-heavy workflows.
  • Background in fintech, healthcare, logistics, or enterprise SaaS.
  • PSPO / CSPO or equivalent practical certification.
04 What we offer
  • Real product ownership with senior engineering teams that deliver.
  • Direct exposure to client executives and decision-makers.
  • Transparent compensation, health benefits, and a learning budget.
  • A culture that values honest scoping over optimistic roadmaps.
