Position Summary
LTi is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to serve as the founding technical leader for the next-generation ASPIRE platform. This is a true greenfield effort: a full re-platform of ASPIRE onto a more modern .NET stack with a React and TypeScript front end, deployed on Azure. The solution architecture, the module boundaries, the tenancy model, the build and deploy pipeline, the testing strategy, the component library, the local developer inner loop, all must be figured out and built. That is the first task for this role.
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Principal Software Engineer will operate as the technical lead for the next-generation product/platform team. This is an individual contributor role without direct reports; influence comes from design authority, code that sets the standard, and the ability to make other engineers faster. You will help define the patterns, build the scaffolding, write production code across the stack, working with a small senior level team to continue building out the product, including working with a dedicated platform engineer establishing all the DevSecOps things, and a more front-end focused developer.
The scope is deliberately broad. Re-platforming a system that carries decades of asset finance domain logic is as much an exercise in deeply learning the domain as it is in engineering a solution. The ideal candidate has done this before, at least once, and knows what to avoid
Essential Functions & Duties
Platform Foundation & Scaffolding
  • Help define the reference architecture for the next-generation Aspire platform, including service topology, module and bounded-context boundaries, tenancy model, and the interaction patterns between front end, API, and domain layers
  • Build the initial scaffolding the rest of the organization will build on, including solution structure, project templates, dependency injection and configuration conventions, cross-cutting concerns (authentication, authorization, tenant context, logging, error handling, background processing, database migrations), and reusable libraries
  • Partner to establish the local developer experience and inner loop: containerized dependencies, seed data, one-command environment setup, fast test execution, and clear documentation that lets a new engineer ship a meaningful change within their first week
  • Help stand up CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code from zero, including build and deployment pipelines, environment provisioning (Bicep or Terraform), branching and release strategy, PR quality gates, and automated promotion across environments
  • Author and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), coding standards, and design guidelines, and establish the lightweight design review process by which they evolve

Backend Engineering (.NET on Azure)
  • Design and build backend services in modern .NET (ASP.NET Core), applying domain-driven design to model core asset finance constructs including contracts, assets, lessees, payment schedules, billing, and accounting entries
  • Design contract-first, versioned APIs with OpenAPI specifications that are consistent, predictable, and guessable, in alignment with LTi's Aspire API 2.0 standards, and define the versioning, deprecation, and backward-compatibility policies that go with them
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous workflow, applying patterns such as transactional outbox, idempotent consumers, retries with backoff, and dead-letter handling
  • Architect for secure multi-tenancy end to end, tenant isolation at the data, cache, messaging, and identity layers, with transport-agnostic tenant context that holds up across HTTP, messaging, and background jobs
  • Leverage the Azure platform appropriately (App Service, Container Apps or AKS, Azure SQL, Entra ID, Key Vault, App Configuration, Blob Storage, Redis, Application Insights), making explicit build-versus-buy and managed-service tradeoffs

Re-Platform Strategy & Migration
  • Own the migration tooling that moves existing ASPIRE customers, including their data, configuration, and operational workflows, onto the next-generation platform, treating migration as an engineered product rather than a series of one-off services engagements
  • Build the pipelines, reconciliation harnesses, and cutover tooling that map legacy ASPIRE structures onto the new domain model, prove a migrated tenant matches the source system, and support repeatable dry runs with a defined rollback path
  • Partner with Product, Implementation, and Customer Success on parity analysis, level of effort, and cohort sequencing, and package the tooling so migrations can run without an engineer in the loop

Technical Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as the technical lead for the next-generation platform team, setting direction, resolving architectural disagreements, and holding the line on quality
  • Raise the engineering bar through high-signal code review, pairing, design walkthroughs, and by writing the exemplar implementations that establish the pattern for everyone else
  • Mentor mid-level and senior engineers on modern .NET, React, distributed systems design, and the asset finance domain, with the explicit goal of making the team independent of any single person
  • Partner with the VP of Engineering, Engineering Managers, and Product on scoping, estimation, sequencing, and technical risk, translating architectural tradeoffs into business terms for executive and customer audiences
  • Advance LTi's AI-assisted development practices, including spec-driven development workflows and the effective, safe use of AI coding tools in the SDLC, leveraging LTi's existing Claude-code environment.
  • Evaluate frameworks, libraries, and vendors with rigor, favoring boring, well-supported technology unless there is a clear and defensible reason to do otherwise

Frontend Engineering (React)
  • Work with the team to stablish the front-end architecture in React and TypeScript.
  • Oversee the shared component library and design system foundation in partnership with FE developer and product UX design, ensuring simplicity in building and maintaining the frontend.
  • Govern the build of the data-heavy interaction patterns that define asset finance software for high-volume grids, complex multi-step workflows, configurable forms, and embedded reporting and analytics surfaces
  • Help define front-end and back-end integration contracts, error semantics, and loading and failure states so that the user experience degrades gracefully under real-world conditions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Backend & .NET
  • Expert-level proficiency in C# and modern .NET (.NET 8 or later), including ASP.NET Core, minimal APIs or controllers, middleware, dependency injection, and hosted and background services
  • Deep experience with relational data modeling against SQL Server or Azure SQL, including performance tuning, indexing strategy, and execution plan analysis
  • Strong command of API design, including REST semantics, resource modeling, OpenAPI, pagination, filtering, error contracts, idempotency, and versioning strategy
  • Proficiency with asynchronous and event-driven architecture, message-based integration, and the failure modes distributed systems exhibit in production
  • Working knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and Microsoft Entra ID

Architecture & Design
  • Proven ability to design greenfield systems from a blank repository to a production-ready foundation, including the judgment to know what to defer
  • Deep understanding of domain-driven design, bounded contexts, and modular monolith versus microservices tradeoffs, with a bias toward the simplest architecture that meets the requirement
  • Experience architecting secure multi-tenant SaaS, including tenant isolation models, per-tenant configuration and extensibility, and noisy-neighbor mitigation
  • Experience with legacy modernization and incremental migration patterns, including strangler-fig approaches, anti-corruption layers, and dual-run verification
  • Ability to model complex business domains into durable software abstractions, with emphasis on financial services constructs

Frontend & React
  • Working knowledge of React and TypeScript, including modern hooks-based patterns, component composition, and performance optimization (memoization, virtualization, code splitting)
  • Knowledge of front-end build tooling (Vite or equivalent), package management, and monorepo or workspace organization
  • Practical knowledge of server-state libraries (TanStack Query or equivalent), client state management, and form libraries in complex enterprise applications

Azure & Platform Engineering
