Job description

The Cloud Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's cloud and hybrid infrastructure. This role supports Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, SaaS applications, and on-premises systems while ensuring high availability, security, compliance, and operational efficiency.

The Cloud Administrator works closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and business teams to maintain secure and reliable cloud services, troubleshoot technical issues, support end users, and assist with implementing new cloud technologies that align with business objectives.


Essential Responsibilities

Cloud Administration

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, SaaS applications, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Configure cloud resources including virtual machines, storage accounts, networking, identity services, and cloud applications.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and resource utilization to ensure optimal operation.
  • Assist with cloud migrations and implementation of new cloud services.

Identity & Access Management

  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), user accounts, group memberships, licensing, and authentication.
  • Configure and maintain Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access Policies, and Single Sign-On (SSO).
  • Review and manage user permissions following least privileged security principles.

Security & Compliance

  • Support cloud security initiatives by monitoring security alerts, vulnerabilities, and health systems.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and customer requirements, including CMMC Level 2, NIST 800-171, CUI, FedRAMP, and other applicable security frameworks.
  • Work with cybersecurity personnel to implement security best practices and remediation activities.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Maintain cloud backup solutions and disaster recovery processes.
  • Perform backup validation and recovery testing to ensure business continuity.
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning and documentation.

Monitoring & Support

  • Monitor cloud environments for performance, outages, and operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, Microsoft 365, networking, and SaaS application issues.
  • Provide Tier II/III technical support for cloud-related incidents and service requests.
  • Escalate complex issues as appropriate.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain documentation for cloud configurations, procedures, and standards.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance security, efficiency, automation, and cost optimization.
  • Assist with evaluating new cloud technologies and solutions.

Collaboration

  • Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Help Desk, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable cloud services.
  • Support cloud-related projects and participate in technology initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and training to IT staff and end users as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure administration and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Intune.
  • Understanding of cloud networking, storage, virtualization, and identity management.
  • Knowledge of cloud security principles and cybersecurity is the best practices.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of Information Technology experience.
  • Three or more years administering Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting SaaS platforms and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages used for administration and automation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, and Azure Monitor.
  • Familiarity with Azure Virtual Desktop is a plus.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or aerospace environments preferred.
