Job description

SAIC is seeking an AWS GovCloud Engineer to support an IT Service Management effort for USTRANSCOM located at Scott Air Force Base (AFB) in Illinois. The USTC Managed Information Technology Services (MITS) contract is intended to provide strategic, technical, and program management guidance and support services to facilitate the operations and modernization of the combatant command's infrastructure, systems, and applications. This support will be provided to the USTC Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems Directorate (TCJ6). 
The successful candidate initiates, supervises, and/or develops requirements from a project's inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs; Provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff; Provides detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission critical challenges/issues; Consults with client to define needs or problems, supervises studies and leads surveys to collect and analyze data to provide advice and recommend solutions.

Responsiblities:

  • Architect & Implement AWS GovCloud solutions emphasizing security, scalability, resiliency; core services include ECS Fargate, EKS, ECR; apply blue/green and other zerodowntime deployment patterns.
  • Plan, design, and manage migrations/replatforming of complex web infrastructure; lead refactoring and modernization targeting ECS Fargate with robust testing.
  • Automate via IaC & CI/CD: maintain and evolve Terraform modules and GitLab pipelines for consistent, audited deployments.
  • Operate for availability: design and maintain highly available ECS Fargate cluster configurations; monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance.
  • Linux operations: perform RHEL 8/9 commandline administration and production support.
  • Governance & documentation: produce technical designs, runbooks, and configuration/change management artifacts aligned to DoD and program standards.
  • CMS administration (Strapi): handle admin functions (permissions, configurations, patches/upgrades, backups) for a mission website-limited portion of time.
  • Crossfunctional leadership: collaborate with SAIC Cloud/DevOps engineers and the Software Testing Team; provide strategic guidance and customerfacing recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 10+ years of experience in cloud/DevOps/infrastructure engineering.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance; IAT Level II (e.g., Security+, CySA+, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CND) per DoD 8570.
  • AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect - Associate/Professional or DevOps Engineer - Professional).
  • Deep experience with AWS GovCloud, ECS/EKS/ECR, Terraform, GitLab, and RHEL 8/9.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and operate scalable, secure web infrastructure, and strong technical documentation skills.
  • Experience delivering configuration & change management directly with/for government customers.
  • Proficiency administering Strapi (permissions, configuration, patching/upgrades, backups) in cloud environments.
  • In-depth understanding of Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), and Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR).
