Position Summary

Community Choice Credit Union is seeking a strategic and collaborative Assistant Vice President (AVP) Controller to lead our Accounting and Payments functions. In this role, you will partner closely with the Chief Efficiency Officer to ensure the integrity, scalability, and operational excellence of the credit unionโ€™s financial infrastructure.

The AVP Controller plays a critical leadership role in supporting enterprise financial planning, capital management, and strategic growth initiatives. Through strong financial reporting, internal controls, and analytical insight, this leader helps guide the organizationโ€™s continued growth and operational efficiency.

This role is ideal for a finance leader who enjoys building scalable systems, developing teams, and partnering with executive leadership to drive strategic financial decisions.


What Youโ€™ll DoStrategic Leadership
  • Partner with executive leadership to support financial strategy, capital planning, liquidity management, and asset-liability management.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the credit unionโ€™s Strategic Business Plan.

  • Serve as an active member of the AVP leadership team, collaborating across departments to drive organizational priorities.

  • Support long-term financial planning through trend analysis, forecasting, and data-driven insights.

Financial Oversight
  • Lead all functions of the Accounting Department and Payments Team.

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements, board reporting, and regulatory reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with NCUA, OFIR, GAAP, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Manage correspondent banking relationships and financial reporting processes.

  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic initiatives, including product profitability, operational efficiencies, and capital investments.

Payments & Operations Governance
  • Provide oversight of payment operations including ACH, wires, check processing, and Check 21.

  • Ensure compliance with payment regulations including NACHA, Reg CC, and OFAC.

  • Monitor fraud trends, operational performance metrics, and scalability as the organization grows.

  • Implement strong internal controls and risk management frameworks across all payment channels.

Systems & Process Optimization
  • Lead accounting and payment system optimization initiatives to support scalable growth toward $4B in assets.

  • Drive continuous improvement in financial close processes, reporting efficiency, and financial data governance.

  • Oversee enterprise document management and financial record retention processes.

Team Leadership
  • Lead and develop Accounting and Operations Managers to ensure strong day-to-day execution and audit readiness.

  • Build a scalable accounting leadership structure that supports organizational growth.

  • Support talent development, succession planning, and leadership mentorship across the department.


What You BringEducation
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA or MBA preferred

Experience
  • 7โ€“10+ years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience

  • Experience within a $1B+ financial institution strongly preferred

  • Audit background preferred

Skills & Expertise
  • Advanced financial analysis and modeling capabilities

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards

  • Experience managing regulatory examinations and audits

  • Expertise in internal control design and financial governance

  • Strong systems knowledge (Core banking systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools)

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and drive operational improvement
