Job description

Northstar Aerospace, now part of Avio Aero - a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading independent manufacturer of components and assemblies to the global Aerospace industry. Our principal products include gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems, and other machined and fabricated parts for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. We also provide maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) on these platforms.

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

This position is in Northstar’s Warehouse Department, and reports to the Production Supervisor.  The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary, but does not direct the work of other employees. This is a full-time position.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Programming and set up of 6-axis LMAZAK U44-1 Space Gear
  • Laser cutting sheet metal details or final assemblies per customer specifications to manufacturing operations and tooling planning and/or blueprints
  • Aiding in the design and manufacture of holding fixtures
  • Daily and weekly maintenance and cleanup of machines and will need to align machine when issues arise
  • Checking the operations performed using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, overlays and pin gauges to measure to customer specifications
  • Analyzing drawings and specifications and determines tooling by applying knowledge and experience of metal properties, machining and processes
  • Working with supervision, engineering, and quality to give feedback and resolve problems
  • Learning and adhering to required safety and housekeeping standards and practices
  • Working with CAD software when programming the laser cutter

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds

  • Occasional sitting, writing and typing
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                                  

               

Education Required:  High School diploma or equivalent experience preferred

Experience Required:  Three (3) years of manufacturing background in performing set-up and operation on CNC Laser

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to solve any issues that may occur with machinery and/or material
  • Experience with a wide variety of hand tools, and various inspection tools, calipers, micrometers, overlays and pin gauges
  • Proficient computer skills needed to program the laser
  • The ability to plan and perform difficult work processes, interact and communicate in a professional and effective manner with all levels employees. Schedule and organize time and tasks effectively
  • Ability to work in a challenging and schedule driven environment
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, have a positive attitude and a solid work history
