AVID Teacher - Potential Opening

The position for AVID Teacher will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year.  All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., April 02, 2026, or until the position is filled.
Primary Purpose:  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects to increase student access and success in rigorous academic programs and college.  Ensure the implementation of the Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program components and methodologies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  1. Promotes administrative support, consensus building, and infrastructure development for the institutionalization of the AVID system.
  2. Engages in cross-curricular planning with core subject teachers, administrators, and secondary school counselors to maximize school improvement potential.
  3. Utilizes age-appropriate teaching strategies, methodologies, and best practices across all grade levels and content-area classes.
  4. Provides tools to increase college knowledge and readiness for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
  5. Closes the achievement gap by preparing students for college readiness and success in a global society.
  6. Improves access and equity to rigorous courses and professional learning opportunities for all students
  7. Maintains current knowledge of state standards and District curriculum to facilitate and align instructional strategies in all core content areas.
  8. Maintains high professional standards that contribute to school productivity and excellence.
  9. Prepares teaching lessons, supervises learning activities, maintains discipline, and evaluates and reports student progress.
  10. Diagnoses and assesses student needs with regard to instructional goals and objectives.
  11. Interacts with students to promote positive school image and enhance teaching-learning processes.
  12. Assists with the selection of programs, equipment, and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  13. Utilizes approved textbooks, technology, supplementary materials, furniture, equipment, and facilities in the most effective manner.
  14. Performs assignments relating to student attendance, record keeping, reporting, and textbook accounting effectively and on time.
  15. Tests students, record grades, and send progress reports to parent, effectively and on time.
  16. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  17. Counsels with students and parents regarding academic matters, social progress, and attendance issues.
  18. Acts as a positive role model for students while supporting the District's mission.
  19. Works with campus and District staff in identifying and solving student-related issues.
  20. Promote the institutionalization of AVID as a school-wide program.
  21. Act as the AVID liaison with the principal, counselor, and other faculty members as well as with the AVID Facilitator and the College and Career Readiness Instructional Specialist.
  22. Lead the AVID site team and facilitate site team meetings.
  23. Facilitate curriculum planning for AVID elective classes with other AVID teachers.
  24. Assist with and submit AVID campus data collection.
  25. Coordinate recruitment and selection of new AVID students.
  26. Attend AVID training, when available.
  27. Attend monthly AVID coordinators meetings and AVID Core Planning Tam meetings.
  28. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  29. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  30. Establishes control in the classroom and administers discipline and punishment in accordance with Board policies and administrative regulations.
  31. Compiles, maintain and file all reports, records, and documents as required.
  32. Takes all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  33. Communicates information and data on a frequent basis to relevant teams and stakeholders; monitors progress and success of the system.
  34. Acts as a liaison and encourages partnerships between students, parents, and District administrators.
  35. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators, and teachers.
  36. Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  37. Promotes positive community relations through effective communication with community members by attending PTA/PTO meetings, as often as possible, as a demonstration of professional responsibility.
  38. Attends PTA/PTO or school-sponsored open houses.
  39. Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  40. Attends and participates in meetings and in-service education programs.
  41. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  42. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification: 
Bachelor's Degree                   
Valid Texas Teacher Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel, parent, and students
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective, research-based instruction
Ability to analyze educational challenges and develop alternative strategies
Experience:
Three-year teaching experience preferred









WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.  Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.  May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students.  Exposure to biological hazards.
