JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To assist the Director of Manatee Technical College (MTC) with the instructional and operational functions of the MTC Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited educational institution in Aviation Maintenance Management, Technical Education, or related field, preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in some aspect of the aviation industry.
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificate as an Airframe and/or Powerplant Mechanic preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices related to aviation maintenance and the aeronautics field. Ability to function under rules and regulations of the Federal Aviation Authority, Manatee County School Board, and State Department of Education. Ability to read and interpret applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize. Ability to analyze, interpret, and use data in decision making. Ability to make presentations to a variety of audiences. Ability to develop and manage budgets.

Director, Manatee Technical College, or designee.
SUPERVISES:
Administrative Assistant, Assigned Instructional and Support Staff
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, plan, establish, administer, oversee, manage, and evaluate the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program and course offerings, in a teaching and learning environment that utilizes digital solutions for courses, textbooks, simulation lab, online learning, and other learning support services.
- Provide leadership and vision for the creation and implementation of strategic plan for the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program.
- Obtain and keep current all certifications and endorsements needed for student safety and instruction, including passing all industry certifications the students need to earn in the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program.
- Develop and implement program changes in response to the needs of the community and according to FAA regulations and laws.
- Prepare the class/course schedules for all the courses within the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program.
- Develop and implement procedures for student entrance requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee an advisory committee that supports the program with members according to the accreditation requirements of the Council on Occupational Education.
- Secure qualified full-time and part-time teachers.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and revise Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program polices and procedure in collaboration with MTC Assistant Director.
- Review, maintain, and evaluate Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program budget and direct appropriation of funds and expenditures as related to the program.
- Secure affiliation agreements for collaborative opportunities with the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program.
- Obtain, purchase, and maintain proper equipment, tools and supplies needed for the program.
- Assist with the supervision of the maintenance of institutional facilities and properties.
- Assist with student discipline, student supervision, and attendance by consistently and fairly administering MTC's policies.
- Develop, promote, and market the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program as well as promote MTC and its programs to the community.
- Prepare reports pertinent to the program area.
- Assist with coordination of seeking grants and funding that are applicable to the program area.
- Assist with coordination of in-service training for the full-time and part-time staff of the program area.
- Coordinate testing programs for the program area.
- Evaluate full-time and part-time staff where necessary.
- Provide recommendations to the MTC Assistant Director of the employment, assignment, evaluation, and professional development of all Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program faculty.
- Keep MTC Assistant Director informed of positive program news, potential problems, or unusual events.
- Keep informed and disseminate information about current research, trends, FAA regulations, laws, and best practices in areas of responsibility.
- Provide leadership and direction for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services, and evaluation of services provided.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
- Attend MTC related activities, District events, and other innovative events including, but not limited to, graduation ceremonies, career technical student organization, and other related career and technical or instructional activities.
- Use the District e-mail and computer applications ethically and effectively.
- Cooperate with and support District and MTC instructional staff in program planning.
- Participate in developing the District and MTC mission, vision, strategic plan, calendar, and staffing plan.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings to discuss policy changes, instructional programs, potential concerns, and resolution of existing issues.
- Build teams to accomplish plans, goals, and priorities.
- Facilitate problem-solving by groups and individuals.
- Work with employers and other stakeholders to resolve complaints or concerns.
- Communicate effectively and positively in both orally and writing with employers, students, teachers, industry personnel and the community.
- Model and maintain high standards for professional conduct.
- Maintain visibility and accessibility of the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) and aeronautics program as well as MTC.
- Work with the local workforce board, business and industry partners, and other community programs for students to obtain work-based learning experience, internship and/or job placement according to the program needs and for program improvement.
- Actively participate with the re-accreditation/certification of the program and MTC when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
