Position Summary:
Are you a detail-oriented, energetic professional ready to make a difference? Join our growing team in Charlotte, NC! Weโ€™re seeking a motivated Pathologistsโ€™ Assistant to play a crucial role in our mission of excellence. Youโ€™ll collaborate closely with a team of experienced PAs and Gross Technicians, ensuring top-notch service in a state-of-the-art lab environment. We are currently staffed with 10 PAs (includes 1 administrative PA Supervisor and 2 Lead PAs) and have 4 newly approved PA positions to proactively prepare for our continued growth. The gross team also includes 5+ Gross Technicians and 2 Pathology Assistants who handle all biopsy/low complexity specimens and placentas. In 2024, the surgical case volume was 118,000. The expected volume for 2025 is 126,000 (average annual growth is 6-10%). In late 2027, a new bed tour will become operational (10-minute walk from current gross room) which includes 50 additional ORs and a second gross room with 9 new grossing stations.


What You'll Do:

  • Work at a single location โ€“ Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (near uptown Charlotte).
  • Perform gross description and dissections of all complex surgical specimens.
  • Professional component of frozen section โ€“ average 11 per day and evenly rotated amongst all PAs.
  • Prosection and report write up for medical autopsies โ€“ average 120 per year and evenly rotated amongst all PAs. The autopsy authorization and evisceration are completed by hospital accessioning and/or diener staff.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and surgeons daily for frozen section and grossing complex specimens.
  • Gross Room equipment/software include Epic Beaker, Dragon DMO, Exakt Bone Saw, Hologic Faxitron, and SPOT Imaging (gross photography).
  • Weekend coverage is mandatory (only 4-5x per year per PA), however, includes additional payment or โ€œcomp dayโ€ the following week. Opportunity for additional payment is available every weekend โ€“ even if you are not rotated to provide coverage.
  • We offer flexible scheduling options, including four 10-hour shifts (9am-7:30pm) or five 8-hour shifts (11:00am-7:30pm), with opportunities for alternative schedules, including weekends and/or 3rd shift.
