What is an AV Tech?

AV Techs, or Audio Visual Technicians, are professionals responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio and video equipment used for events, presentations, conferences, and performances. Their duties often include installing microphones, projectors, speakers, video screens, and other related equipment, as well as troubleshooting technical problems that may arise during events. AV Techs work in a variety of settings, such as hotels, event venues, schools, and corporate offices, ensuring that all AV components function smoothly and effectively.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an AV Tech?

Familiarity with AV control systems (such as Crestron or Extron), audio mixers, video conferencing tools, and relevant certifications like CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills for success in this role.
