Job description

Overview

The Auto Club of Southern California is looking for an Automotive Research Engineer!

The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience and technical expertise as an automotive subject matter expert. You will lead the Automotive Research Center in testing and analysis related to vehicle emissions, fuel economy, and electric vehicle range then utilize the results to provide useful data to clients, as well as consumer information to members and the auto industry. You will then present information and research to a wide range of clients and senior leadership at legislative, regulatory, public policy and industry forums.

Responsibilities

  • You will develop and conduct technical research studies and analysis related to vehicle emissions, fuel economy, and EV ranges.

  • You’ll provide pertinent consumer information to members and teams in order to influence development and improvement.

  • You’ll be required to stay up to date on all state and federal regulations related to fuel economy and emissions

  • You will manage projects related to automotive, emissions and air quality issues.

  • You will contribute and lead development initiatives in vehicle-related automotive testing that will contribute to AAA’s business line strategies, member services and products.

  • You’ll research key public policy issues and initiatives in automotive technology and related issues and assist the organization’s advocates.

  • You will play a key role in club owned publications, written studies and various communication materials on a variety of topics related to automotive technology.

  • You’ll be responsible for the maintenance of lab equipment and procedures; and make recommendations for improvements. 

Requirements

  • To thrive in this role you will need prior experience in chassis dyno testing, including emissions, fuel economy and EV range testing of vehicles.

  • You will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive research design, engineering, analysis, testing and management of staff performing same; preferably a combination thereof.

  • You have comprehensive oral and written communications skills. Especially technical writing.

  • You have advanced ability to successfully develop and implement initiatives and programs.

  • You are proficient in MS Office programs and specialized hardware and software necessary for technical tasks.

  • Membership in automotive associations such as SAE and industry certified candidates (i.e., ASE) are preferred.

AAA Safe Business Driving Guidelines:

As an Automotive Research Lead Engineer you will be required to hold a California vehicle operator’s license and excellent driving record required.

The starting pay range for this position is:

$97,200.00 - $129,300.00

Additionally, for full time positions, you will be eligible to participate in our incentive program based upon the achievement of organization, team and personal performance.
