Job description

Job Title:  Quality Engineer                                           Location:  Rossford Assembly

Reports To:  Quality Manager                                       Employees Supervised:  0

Purpose:

Monitors process performance in order to identify areas for improvement, defines problems related to product/process systems, and implements improvement programs to eliminate problems. Leads team projects and provides technical and problem-solving support as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the team in utilizing the 10 Key Safety Leadership Behaviors to Do Right through actions in safely producing quality parts at world class yields.
  • Provide a safe and healthy working environment implementing improvement systems to eliminate any work-related injuries and ensuring all employees understand all safety requirements.
  • Ensure that Rossford Assembly is in adherence with the NSG Business Management System and any Customer Specific Requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry standards, regulations, and certifications relevant to the automotive industry and NSG customers. Ensure we are compliant with all applicable quality and safety standards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality control procedures to ensure adherence to product specifications and industry standards throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Perform rigorous inspections and tests on incoming materials, in process components, and finished products to identify defects deviations, and potential issues.
  • Investigate and perform root cause analysis for quality deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints, proposing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify opportunities for process and product improvements, along with cost saving measures to ensure overall product Quality.
  • Work closely with suppliers to establish quality standards, use NSG resources to conduct supplier audits, and address supplier concerns to ensure consistency of raw materials and components.
  • Monitoring & development of the NSG Traceability system for existing and new model product as well as facilitate internal training to appropriate resources to ensure the effectiveness of the system.
  • Translate the customer requirements into production specifications, control plans, and process FMEAs, working in cross functional teams to address any deficiencies.
  • Participate in and contribute to NMI (New Model Introduction) or Product Transfer activities: safe launch, PPAP, data acquisition, support team meetings, FMEA/CP Review, SWI Review, etc.
  • Lead/Support certification audits & all required internal audits, including but not limited to IATF 16949/ISO9001 QMS Requirements
  • Conduct internal Quality Training with new hires and existing employees to assist in their development.
  • Facilitate and ensure adherence to the controlled documents process and system entries required for compliance.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with Customer’s, Site Liaisons, and Engineering Contacts.
  • Conduct weekly quality improvement meetings.
  • Travel to customer locations as required.
  • Lead and monitor PPM improvement efforts for new and existing parts.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager

Scope/Dimensions:

  • Single site manufacturing location with 3 shift operation, supplying finished goods to Tier 1 Automotive OEM and Tier 2 customers
  • Actively participating in problem-solving teams and other groups as necessary to achieve KPI goals.
  • Demands and prioritizes needs adjusted regularly to provide a high level of service under tight timeliness to several customers internally or externally.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or other technically related field (relevant experience) or an Associate's degree with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in the automotive industry with a proven track record of implementing effective quality control measures, preferably for a Tier 1 Automotive Supplier.
  • Strong understanding of automotive Quality Standards, such as ISO9001/IATF16949.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read and use customer and supplier prints.
  • Experience with SPC, production monitoring devices, gauges, and various Quality Tools.
  • Training and experience in disciplined problem-solving techniques (Ex: 5-Why; 8-D; DMAIC, formal root cause analysis)
  • Demonstrate leadership ability and the ability to work within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and in conducting inspections and ensuring accuracy in Quality documentation.
  • Must be proficient in the use of business software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Forms, etc.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to apply inferential and deductive reasoning.
  • Effective self-starter and ability to work independently or within teams as necessary.

Qualifications Desired:

  • IATF 16949/ISO 9001 Auditor certification
  • Six Sigma Certification (Greenbelt or Blackbelt)
  • Relevant certifications in Quality Management or Engineering (e.g., ASQ-CQE).

Salary Range starting from $73,668.00.
