Job description

Description Hennepin County's Public Works department is seeking an Automotive Parts Buyer for our warehouse at the Public Works Facility in Medina. In this role, you will work closely with our mechanics to research and source parts, purchase, receive, stage, and issue materials and supplies. This opportunity may be a great fit if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have experience with automotive parts purchasing or warehouse inventory management.

Location and hours: This position is located at the Public Works Facility warehouse, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours are Monday through Thursday, 12:30 p.m

to 11:00 p.m. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire

About this position type: This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as a Stockworker, Mechanical. Click here to view the job classification specification.

Criminal background checks: Applicants with convictions are not automatically disqualified. Each case is considered on its individual circumstances and the type of work. In this position, you will: Fulfill customer orders received through electronic requisitioning and at the Will Call counter.

Source and procure automotive parts and enter transactions into a computer database. Search computer database for stock parts and purchase history; inspect, receive, and store incoming orders. Assist in resolving shipment and invoice discrepancies and return parts to vendors as needed.

Manage the issuance and storage of supplies, maintain inventory records and paper files, and ensure a clean and organized workspace. Assemble hydraulic hoses. Need to have: One year or more of warehouse experience.

A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit and forklift permit. Nice to have: One year or more of mechanical or procurement experience in automotive parts. Experience: Operating a forklift.

With Asset Works M5 or other fleet management software. Knowledge of warehouse procedures, practices, inventory, and material management systems. Ability to: Bend, stand, and lift up to 70 pounds.

Follow oral and written instructions. Establish working relationships with staff and vendors. Create and utilize spreadsheets and databases on a computer.
