Job description

Summary: Performs skilled work in preparing metal and other surfaces on automotive equipment for painting and in applying lacquers, primers, synthetic enamels, polyurethane, and epoxy with spray guns and other auto painting equipment to automotive and construction equipment; and does related work.

Essential Duties include the following; however, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Knowledge of the processes, techniques and materials used in painting automotive and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of the proper methods of preparing automotive equipment for painting.
  • Knowledge of the proper methods of caring for spray guns and other auto painting equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions required in performing the work of the trade.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and Safety Orders of the California Division of Industrial Safety pertinent to painting.
  • General knowledge of stenciling skill in the use of spray guns.

Required Skills

  • Use of basic hand tools.
  • Use of dual action sanders.
  • Ability to comprehend collision repair damage estimates.
  • Understand limits of hybrid and EV vehicles during back cycles and temperatures sealers and primers.
  • Ability to block sand.
  • Ability to feather edge.
  • Ability to mask vehicle for refinish.
  • Ability to prep finish area and clean paint apparatuses.
  • Ability to finish, sand and polish to remove imperfections from refinishing.
  • Identify plastic types and refinish requirements.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The individual should possess:

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired.
  • At least 1 year of painter helper or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of repairs for damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must possess problem solving & excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information in the English language.

Minimum Hourly Pay Rate of $23.00, which can increase based on productivity without any upper limit.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential

functions of this job. Individual will be required to:

  • Stand for long periods at a time
  • Frequently bend, stretch, twist, or reach with their body, arms, and/or legs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • It is estimated that handling vehicle parts will constitute approximately 30-40% of the physical demands, which includes lifting 0-50 pounds and occasional lifting of 50 pounds or more.
  • Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs.
