THE POSITION

Come aboard our team as a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This trainee opportunity provides structured, hands-on training to develop the skills needed to repair and maintain a wide range of Commonwealth vehicles and construction equipment. Through your work, you will support safe and dependable operation of equipment used in transportation services. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee, you will perform the following duties:


  • Equipment Training: Learn to repair and overhaul cars, trucks, and heavy equipment under guidance
  • Maintenance Skills: Participate in preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment
  • Component Repair: Assist with diagnostics, tune-ups, system adjustments, and part replacements
  • Inspection Support: Help complete safety and emissions inspections and prepare required documentation
  • Diagnostic Learning: Identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools and assist with selecting repair methods
  • Tool Handling: Develop skills in maintaining and repairing motorized hand equipment used in field operations


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required.
  • Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844.00 (before taxes).
