Job description

SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking an IP Engineer for an assigned project with a client in the automotive industry. The role is based in Novi, MI or Charlotte NC and requires onsite presence and occasional travel. PURPOSE: 
The IP Engineer is responsible for the development, integration, and validation of Instrument Panel (IP) and Console systems across all phases of the vehicle development lifecycle. This role ensures that components meet functional, quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements while supporting timely delivery and seamless integration into the overall vehicle program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the engineering development of Instrument Panel and Console systems through all product development phases (design, validation, and launch).
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure proper data management, including accurate upload and maintenance within OEM systems.
  • Manage part updates and engineering changes to improve manufacturability, performance, and system integration.
  • Obtain required engineering releases (e.g., B-Release) for IP and Console components.
  • Ensure supplier tooling timelines align with overall program milestones and downstream deliverables.
  • Support and lead DV/PV testing activities, including validation planning, execution, and issue resolution.
  • Track and resolve all open issues related to IP and Console systems throughout development and build phases.
  • Support supplier builds as well as on-site vehicle builds.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to ensure robust system delivery.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods to drive fast and effective issue resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering, safety, and quality requirements throughout development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in Instrument Panel and/or Console system development within the automotive industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of expertise
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong expertise in Instrument Panel and Console systems, including system requirements and integration.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, especially CATIA, including sectioning and data analysis.
  • Experience with DV/PV validation processes and testing methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of automotive quality processes, including DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
  • Ability to manage engineering changes and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing technical deliverables.
  • Familiarity with OEM systems, with VW systems knowledge considered a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to drive quick issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Ability to follow engineering direction and adapt designs to meet safety, quality, and performance requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with Volkswagen
  • Willingness to travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
  • Location: Novi, MI or Charlotte NC
  • Schedule: Full Time/ 40 hours per week
  • Travel: up to 20% domestics travel
  • Overtime: as required
  • Assignment Start: June 2026 – December 2030
  • Duration: up to 4.5 years
