MISSION / SUMMARY:

Mission/Summary:

This Senior Project Manager - Automation will manage the execution of a portfolio of automation capital projects in the Foodservice business to deliver GPI's sustainability driven organic growth and operational excellence goals. The automation capital project portfolio comprises several projects in GPI's Foodservice operations that convert cups, cartons and lids. The capital project scope includes sourcing and commissioning OEM designed equipment and solutions to automate processes in Foodservice operations. The role will also manage development of custom solutions with OEM partners, internal and external subject matter experts. The project management role will report to the Director, Engineering Services.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage execution of a portfolio of automation capital projects
  • Develop automation solutions for Foodservice plants in collaboration with integrators, OEMs, GPI manufacturing and engineering team members.
  • Own and develop detailed scope of capital projects working with other functions including Engineering, Operations, Sourcing, and external vendors
  • Develop detailed execution plans and resource requirements to meet timelines and project deliverables
  • Conduct detailed risk analysis for project execution and develop mitigation plans
  • Execute capital projects through best practices in Project Management by coordinating with all appropriate internal and external resources
  • Coordinate factory acceptance, plant acceptance and equipment commissioning with project team
  • Manage project budget for capital efficiency through best practices in sourcing and cost management.
  • Lead overall communication with project team and key stakeholders
  • Follow best practices in project documentation
  • Facilitate, encourage, promote, and engage in teamwork activities

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 years of experience in mechanical and electrical engineering roles
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation
  • Project management experience with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
  • Supplier knowledge & relationships in industrial automation a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturability and design for assembly preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience in paper manufacturing, plastics manufacturing, paper & board converting highly desirable
  • Demonstration leadership utilizing systematic problem-solving approaches to identify root causes
  • Proven track record of safely leading diverse teams of highly engaged, technically oriented, individuals to achieve superior results
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
  • Six Sigma Certification, PMP certification, preferred

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor's of science degree required. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering/Automation/Robotics/Industrial Engineering preferred

SKILLS:

  • Project Management Skills – Capital/Technical projects
  • Must possess computer aided design (CAD) skills. Experience with SolidWorks is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering best practices in the design of mechanical components.
  • Deep understanding of electro-mechanical components, including PLC and drive motor controls required.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
  • Must have demonstrated oral and written communication and organizational skills, including presenting to senior leadership.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment
  • Up to 30% travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customers – including international travel.
