Role: Delta-V Automation Project Manager / Automation Engineer (Life Sciences)

Location: San Diego, CA - Onsite
Duration: Long-Term Contract
 

We are seeking an experienced Automation Project Manager / Automation Engineer to lead automation projects for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. This role will oversee automation system design, project execution, validation, and commissioning while ensuring compliance with cGMP and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation projects from concept through design, implementation, commissioning, qualification, and operational readiness.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and vendor deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Validation, Quality, and Facilities teams.
  • Develop and review automation documentation including URS, FRS, SDS, control narratives, and system architecture.
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and CQV activities.
  • Oversee PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, instrumentation, and control system implementation.
  • Manage automation-related deviations, change controls, and Computer System Validation (CSV) activities.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, GAMP 5, ASTM E2500, 21 CFR Part 11, and Data Integrity requirements.
  • Serve as the technical lead for system integrators, contractors, and cross-functional project teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of automation engineering or automation project management experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, instrumentation, VFDs, and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with CSV, CQV, change control, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and GMP compliance.
  • Proven experience managing automation projects, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
