Job description

Senior SAP Program Manager / PMO Lead

Location: Remote (some travel to San Francisco-area offices as needed)

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 11–12 months

Scope: Full-time

Hourly Rate: Up to $133/hr

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a highly experienced SAP PMO to support a strategic SAP implementation program. This role will provide program-level coordination, governance, and financial/business oversight across multiple teams and workstreams.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SAP implementations and PMO/program management, along with enough Finance expertise to help guide cross-functional teams and ensure sound business decisions throughout the program. Experience supporting Data & AI functionality within SAP environments is highly desirable.

This is a light SAP implementation, so the ideal candidate should bring a pragmatic, flexible mindset and be comfortable helping teams make effective decisions without over-engineering processes or introducing unnecessary complexity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support overall PMO activities for an SAP implementation program, including planning, governance, status reporting, risk management, and issue tracking.
  • Coordinate across Finance, business, technology, data, and other functional teams to ensure alignment and progress.
  • Provide program leadership and structure across multiple SAP workstreams and stakeholders.
  • Help establish and maintain project plans, milestones, dependencies, action items, and key deliverables.
  • Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to evaluate decisions, priorities, and impacts throughout the implementation.
  • Provide financial and business context to help teams make informed program decisions.
  • Track program risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Facilitate meetings, working sessions, and executive-level status updates.
  • Develop and maintain PMO reporting, dashboards, presentations, and program documentation.
  • Support implementation planning and ensure teams remain aligned to program objectives and timelines.
  • Help identify opportunities to streamline processes and maintain a practical, efficient approach to the SAP implementation.
  • Collaborate with Data and AI teams where applicable to support integration and implementation activities.
  • Provide guidance and structure to project teams while adapting to evolving business and technical requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience, with significant experience in PMO, program management, or project management.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting SAP implementations.
  • Strong PMO/program management background, preferably supporting large, complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Finance/business processes and the ability to work effectively with Finance stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple functional and technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, planning, risk management, dependencies, and executive reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of program-level responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP Data and/or AI functionality.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations.
  • Experience supporting lightweight, agile, or pragmatic SAP implementations.
  • Experience working with Finance transformation or SAP Finance-related initiatives.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience in environments where SAP is being implemented with an emphasis on simplicity, speed, and business value rather than a traditional large-scale implementation methodology.

Ideal Candidate: A senior SAP PMO leader who understands both the SAP implementation landscape and Finance, can coordinate complex cross-functional teams, and brings a pragmatic “light implementation” mindset rather than a highly rigid SAP methodology.
