Job description

AI Automation Intern

Join our AMETEK IntelliPower team, where we design and deliver high-performance, ruggedized uninterruptible power systems (UPS) and frequency/voltage conversion solutions to safeguard mission-critical operations. Be a part of a team that ensures the reliability and protection of essential systems in the toughest environments, making a direct impact on critical industries worldwide!

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking student to drive hands-on projects that help implement AI best practices across our organization. This role is ideal for someone passionate about artificial intelligence, operational excellence, and solving real business problems with practical, scalable solutions. The AI Automation Intern will drive two key initiatives: developing an AI-driven magnetics design automation tool that accelerates the design of inductors and transformers; and automating the firmware modification and calibration process by replacing manual updates to hard-coded values with automated adjustments generated from engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end projects focused on implementing an AI best practice.
  • Develop an AI enabled magnetics design automation capability that leverages machine learning models trained on historical designs, simulation outputs, and performance data to deliver rapid, reliable design recommendations and reduce engineering iteration cycles.
  • Develop automation workflows to update firmware configuration values and calibration gains from defined specifications.
  • Reduce manual editing of hard-coded parameters and gain values in C source files and related configuration artifacts.
  • Work with engineers to translate product requirements and specs into reliable firmware change rules.
  • Support validation of generated firmware changes through test cases, build checks, and result review.
  • Document the automation process, tool usage, and limitations for team adoption.
  • Develop documentation outlining datasheet standards, governance, and updated processes.
  • Build simple prototypes, process maps, or proof-of-concept demonstrations as appropriate.
  • Implement AI Agents or other productivity tools that drive simplification, efficiency, and speed.
  • Present final project outcomes, impact, and recommendations to business and technical leaders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Coursework, projects, or hands-on internship experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, or data analytics.
  • Prior experience using AI productivity tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar).
  • Experience with C programming for embedded or firmware applications.
  • Familiarity with TI IDE tools and TI chipsets.
  • Experience with firmware configuration, calibration, or parameter tuning.
  • Experience using automation, scripting, or AI tools to reduce manual engineering work.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools in a professional or academic setting.

What's in It for You:

Meaningful, real-world experience that prepares you for future roles in AI, digital transformation, and process improvement. Opportunity to explore potential career paths before graduating. Supportive environment that accelerates growth from student to early-career professional. Competitive pay and exposure to a global technology organization. Exciting, fast-paced environment where you could make a true impact.

Location: This position is located in sunny Orange, California. Orange combines historical charm with modern living. From the center of town referred to as the Plaza to our top-rated hospitals, schools, and parks, we're a "Slice of Old Towne Charm."
