Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare and teach graphic design courses to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes. Courses topics may include:
Design processes and frameworks
Typography
Branding
Environmental design
Packaging
Multichannel campaigns
Publication design
Concept development
Design studio processes
Website design
Portfolio development
Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.

Required Education
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Art, Graphic Design, Commercial Art, Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Printing/Production, or Visual Communication.
Required Work Experience
Documentable 3 years of non-teaching industry-relevant work experience.
Qualities of a Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will be able to:
Explain the role of the graphic designer and the design workflow within a studio environment
Describe best practices of creative collaboration with internal and external teams
Describe the effective use of graphic design principles and processes to produce designs.
Identify current visual trends and movements in graphic and interactive design.
Describe the production workflow of printed or digital assets a.) within a design studio environment and b.) with industry-related vendors (such as offset printers, large format printers, screen printers, web developers, etc.).
