Automation In Finance information

What is automation in finance?

Automation in finance refers to the use of technology, such as software, artificial intelligence, and robotics, to perform financial processes and tasks with minimal human intervention. Common applications include automating data entry, invoice processing, reconciliations, financial reporting, and even some decision-making functions. This helps organizations improve efficiency, reduce errors, lower operational costs, and enable finance professionals to focus on more strategic activities. Automation is increasingly being adopted in both large corporations and small businesses to streamline their financial operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in automation in finance?

To thrive in Automation in Finance, you need a solid grounding in finance principles, data analysis, and programming skills, often supported by degrees in finance, accounting, or computer science. Familiarity with automation tools like RPA (Robotic Process Automation), Python, Excel macros, and ERP systems is typically required, along with certifications such as UiPath or Blue Prism. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills that help professionals adapt and collaborate across departments. These skills and qualities are crucial for streamlining processes, reducing errors, and driving efficiency in financial operations.

How does an automation in finance specialist typically collaborate with other departments to implement new financial technologies?

An Automation in Finance specialist works closely with teams such as IT, accounting, and operations to identify manual processes that can be automated. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, mapping current workflows, and testing new solutions to ensure seamless integration across platforms. Regular meetings and cross-functional project teams are common, enabling specialists to address concerns, provide training, and ensure compliance. This collaborative approach helps drive successful adoption of automation tools and optimizes financial processes organization-wide.

Are automation in finance jobs being automated?

Automation in finance jobs, including roles like financial analysts and accountants, is increasingly common as technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA) and artificial intelligence (AI) handle repetitive tasks. While automation reduces manual work, many finance professionals focus on strategic decision-making, analysis, and oversight that require human judgment. Therefore, automation is transforming rather than fully replacing finance jobs, emphasizing the need for skills in technology and data analysis.

Job description

We are driven to do more. More for our customers and the financial professionals who offer our products. If you are driven to do more and love the challenge of pursuing more, Athene is your kind of company. You will find we offer more than the basics to create an inclusive and dynamic work environment at our various locations.

Purpose:

The Finance Transformation Senior Analyst will leverage finance, transformation, and project delivery experience to independently lead defined projects and workstreams that advance strategic priorities across the Finance organization. This role will partner directly with Finance leaders, business stakeholders, Information Technology, and other cross-functional teams to translate business objectives into structured plans, drive day-to-day execution, manage risks and dependencies, and support implementation, adoption, and measurable business outcomes. The Senior Analyst is expected to operate as an experienced individual contributor who brings structure to ambiguous problems, maintains delivery momentum, and ensures stakeholders remain aligned on priorities, decisions, deliverables, and expected outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead defined Finance transformation projects and workstreams from planning through implementation, establishing clear scope, milestones, dependencies, deliverables, and success measures.
  • Translate complex or ambiguous business challenges into actionable plans by analyzing processes, data, controls, requirements, and organizational impacts and developing practical recommendations.
  • Drive cross-functional execution across Finance, Technology, and business partners, proactively managing priorities, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, and stakeholder commitments.
  • Develop and communicate executive-ready analyses, business cases, presentations, status updates, and recommendations that enable timely, informed decision-making.
  • Drive implementation readiness, adoption, and measurable outcomes through testing, training, communications, process documentation, controls, transition planning, and post-implementation monitoring.
  • Identify opportunities to use technology, automation, data, and AI to improve Finance processes and transformation delivery while applying appropriate judgment and controls.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, preferred in finance transformation, management consulting, project/program delivery, business transformation, finance operations, or process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own significant projects or workstreams from planning through implementation while managing priorities, timelines, risks, issues, and dependencies across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to bring structure to ambiguity, evaluate alternatives, adapt quickly, and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.
  • Effective communication, facilitation, and influencing skills, including experience developing executive-ready materials and partnering effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Curiosity and an innovation mindset, including the ability to identify opportunities to improve processes through technology, data, automation, and AI; Finance or financial-services experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience; advanced degree or relevant professional certification is a plus.
