Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to which competency will be measured include the following:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation systems including robotics, PLCs, vision systems, and SCADA platforms.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify automation solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Ensure that automation systems comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, ROI analysis, and risk assessments for automation initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for automation systems, including user manuals, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain and improve existing automation systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Provide training and support to manufacturing personnel on the use of automation
  • Oversee troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex automation and control system issues.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and advancements, including additive manufacturing, to ensure automation systems are current and relevant.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to leverage their expertise and resources as needed.
  • Mentor and coach automation engineers, providing technical guidance, training, and career development support.
  • Act as a role model for engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Review and guide engineering work to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.

Education and Experience โ€“ Bachelorโ€™s degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year College in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, combined with 10+ years of experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of visitors or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills โ€“ Microsoft Office, CAD. Ability to understand and write programs in several equipment languages; including but not limited to: PLC, EIA/ISO G-Code, Fanuc Karel (Pascal), ABB Rapid. Ability to understand and write programs in computer languages to integrate and automate systems.
