Job description

Automation Technologist  

WHAT YOU’LL DO:     

Role:     

The Automation Technologist  is responsible for  building, implementing,  maintaining , and supporting automated manufacturing and test systems used in the production and validation of CoolIT products. This role works closely with Automation Specialists, Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to install, troubleshoot, improve, and sustain automation equipment, PLC-controlled systems, robotic equipment, industrial controls, and automated test platforms.  

The Automation Technologist plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, improving test efficiency, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across test activities at CoolIT.  

Responsibilities:     

  • Install, commission, and support automated manufacturing and test equipment.   
  • Assist  in the development, modification, and validation of PLC programs, HMIs, and industrial control systems.   
  • Build, wire, configure, and troubleshoot electrical control panels, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation.   
  •  Support automated test stations by configuring hardware, software, and communication interfaces.   
  •   Assist  in developing and  maintaining  Python-based automation tools for test execution, data collection, reporting, and workflow automation.   
  •  Support Power BI dashboards by collecting,  validating , and organizing manufacturing and test data.   
  •  Diagnose and resolve automation equipment issues involving PLCs, industrial networks, robotics, sensors, motion systems, and software.   
  •  Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and validation of automated equipment.   
  •   Assist  with integrating new test equipment and automation technologies.   
  •  Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.   
  •  Support factory equipment upgrades, continuous improvement projects, and process optimization initiatives.   
  •  Maintain documentation including electrical drawings, software revisions, equipment settings, operating procedures, and maintenance records.   
  •   Assist  with vendor coordination, equipment installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).   
  •  Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions for equipment failures.   
  •  Train testers and production personnel on automated equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.   
  •  Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and machine safeguarding standards.  

WHO YOU ARE:    

Basic Qualifications:     

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, or related field.    

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Experience working in a high-tech, electronics, or fluid systems manufacturing environment  
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).    
  • Background in automated testing, motion control, and servo systems.    

Skills:    

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.    

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation.    

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.    

  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and working independently in a fast-paced, evolving production setting.    

  • Safety-conscious mindset with knowledge of industrial safety and machine safeguarding principles.
