JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Field Service Technician
Reports To: Service
Department/Location: NELCO GDS

Job Summary
The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of large, radiation-shielded, and RF-shielded automatic door systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in diverse environments, including hospitals, medical facilities, and industrial sites.
This role requires expertise in complex automatic systems, such as door operators, sensors, and linear motion systems, as well as comfort working with heavy-duty equipment and precision alignment requirement
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Perform routine maintenance on radiation-shielded and RF-shielded door systems, focusing on large automatic mechanisms.
โ€ข Install, align, and calibrate automatic door systems and components, including heavy-duty door operators and safety sensors.
โ€ข Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electronic issues in large automatic radiation and RF-shielded door systems.
โ€ข Ensure precise adjustments and alignment of linear motion systems to meet rigorous performance standards in medical environments.
โ€ข Install and service automatic door operators, safety sensors, and linear motion systems.
โ€ข Provide guidance to customers on proper operation and safety procedures for complex automatic door systems.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide technical support.
โ€ข Maintain professionalism and build strong customer relationships.
โ€ข Work independently in challenging environments, such as hospitals, where downtime can impact patient care.
โ€ข Prepare detailed service reports for management and customers.
โ€ข Ensure all documentation adheres to NELCO and regulatory standards.
โ€ข Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Service Operations Manager or General Manager.
Organizational Responsibility
โ€ข Coordinate pre- and post-project communications with customers to manage expectations, address safety concerns, and ensure milestones are met.
โ€ข Ensure adherence to safety guidelines and regulations, including mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) per ANSI Z49.1.
โ€ข Communicate progress, issues, and recommendations to project management
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent required.
โ€ข Technical certification or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or automation fields preferred.
โ€ข Welding experience preferred.
โ€ข Extensive mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, especially related to automatic doors, linear motion systems, and safety interlocks.
โ€ข Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
โ€ข Experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other control systems is a plus.
โ€ข Excellent communication and customer service skills.
โ€ข Familiarity with ANSI/BHMA standards and other safety guidelines for automatic door systems is highly desirable.
โ€ข Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment as needed.
โ€ข OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
โ€ข Preferred certifications: Forklift, scissor lift, and first-aid.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
โ€ข Lifting & Carrying: Regularly lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance.
โ€ข Climbing: May need to climb ladders or work on elevated platforms.
โ€ข Kneeling, Crouching, & Crawling: Frequent kneeling, crouching, and crawling to access tight spaces.
โ€ข Reaching & Bending: Regular overhead reaching and bending to service and install equipment.
โ€ข Precision Work: Tasks may involve fine adjustments for sensors and operator systems.
โ€ข Vision & Hearing: Good vision and hearing are required for troubleshooting and diagnostics. Corrective lenses or hearing protection may be needed, depending on the situation.
โ€ข Use of appropriate PPE is mandatory to safeguard against occupational hazards
Work Environment:
โ€ข Exposure to Hazards: Potential exposure to high-power mechanisms, electrical hazards, and radiation hazards, mitigated by adherence to safety protocols and use of protective equipment.
โ€ข Temperature Variations: Work environments may range from climate-controlled facilities to less regulated industrial or outdoor settings.
โ€ข Noise Levels: Moderate noise exposure is common, with occasional loud environments when using machinery or tools.
โ€ข Travel Requirements: Frequent travel to customer sites, including extended driving and overnight stays, may be required depending on job location.
