Design & Engineering Specialist – Support Premier Commercial Facade and Glazing Builds


Job Overview
  • Company: SG Metal & Glass.
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $40,000 to $70,000 per year.

  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday.
  • Project Scope: Glazing / Commercial Windows / Glass
  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: AutoCAD Proficiency.

The Opportunity

You will serve as a vital link between design and reality, transforming complex architectural visions into precise technical shop drawings for glazing projects. This role offers you the chance to join a 60-year industry leader where your detailed contributions directly influence the structural integrity and aesthetic of Chicago’s skyline. You will have the autonomy to manage submittal packages while receiving dedicated mentorship to evolve into a key leader within our engineering and project management teams.


How You Will Make an Impact
  • Produce highly detailed AutoCAD shop drawings for complex curtain wall, storefront, and architectural metal systems.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of submittal packages from initial creation through final architectural approval.
  • Coordinate technical requirements with architects, structural engineers, and general contractors to ensure design fidelity.
  • Develop comprehensive Bills of Material (BOM) to streamline accurate fabrication and material purchasing.
  • Translate architectural and structural plans into actionable field and shop documentation to prevent project delays.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial construction drafting or project engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD with a proven ability to interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how glazing or facade systems are coordinated, fabricated, and installed.
  • Strong organizational skills necessary for managing multi-phase project documentation and strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Direct experience with Division 8 glazing systems, including curtain wall and storefront assemblies.
  • Proven background working within a fabrication-based contractor environment.
