Job description

Arlington Forest Club (AFC) Lifeguard – End of Season Position DescriptionPosition Summary

Arlington Forest Club (AFC) is seeking dependable, professional, and safety-focused lifeguards to finish the 2026 summer season. Lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all members and guests by maintaining constant surveillance of the pool, enforcing club rules, responding appropriately to emergencies, and completing assigned facility duties.

This position requires flexibility and availability throughout the final weeks of the season, including the transition to the school-year operating schedule.

Essential Responsibilities

All AFC lifeguards are expected to:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in and around the pool.
  • Prevent accidents through proactive scanning and rule enforcement.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including administering first aid and CPR/AED as needed.
  • Maintain current lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for every scheduled shift.
  • Wear the required uniform and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Follow all AFC policies, procedures, and manager directions.
  • Complete assigned cleaning duties, facility maintenance tasks, and opening/closing responsibilities.
  • Participate in stand rotations promptly and remain attentive while on duty.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to members and guests.
  • Work cooperatively with fellow lifeguards, head guards, assistant managers, and managers.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by limiting personal phone use, avoiding unnecessary socializing while working, and taking initiative to complete tasks without being asked.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility at all times.
End-of-Season Availability Requirements

To be considered for an AFC End-of-Season Lifeguard position, applicants must meet the following availability requirements:

  • Be available to work August 22–30.
  • Be available to work morning, daytime, or evening shifts during this period, based on scheduling needs.
  • Be available to work Labor Day (Monday, September 7).
  • Be available to work after-school shifts on weekdays through September 13 and weekends as needed.

Because staffing is limited during the final weeks of the season, these availability requirements are essential. Applicants who cannot meet these requirements may not be eligible for end-of-season employment.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old (or meet all applicable state requirements).
  • Hold current American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications before beginning work.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and sound judgment.
  • Be dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Be capable of performing the physical demands of lifeguarding, including swimming, rescues, prolonged standing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Expectations

Successful AFC lifeguards are reliable, attentive, and take pride in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment. They demonstrate initiative, maintain professionalism throughout every shift, and understand that member safety is always the highest priority.
