Our Auditorium Student Worker position is a great opportunity for individuals to potentially get more familiar with event operations, technical theater, audio/visual technology, stage management, customer service, leadership and teamwork, and professional communication.

Employment Type: Student Worker (Part-Time/As Needed) 

Schedule: Starting at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year

NOTE: Candidates MUST be current Octorara High School Students.

Overview:

The Auditorium Student Worker assists with the setup, operation, and support of school and community events held in the High School Auditorium. Student workers help ensure events run smoothly by supporting lighting, sound, stage setup, audience assistance, and general event operations.

This position provides students with hands-on experience in event production, teamwork, customer service, leadership, and technical theater operations in a professional and collaborative environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist with auditorium setup and cleanup before and after events
  • Support stage preparation, seating arrangements, and equipment setup
  • Assist with basic lighting, sound, microphone, and audiovisual operations under supervision
  • Help backstage during performances, presentations, concerts, and special events
  • Greet and assist staff, students, families, and community members attending events
  • Monitor auditorium spaces to help maintain safety, cleanliness, and organization
  • Assist with moving equipment, props, chairs, tables, and staging materials
  • Follow directions from supervisors regarding event timelines and responsibilities
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and appropriate conduct during all events
  • Follow all school safety procedures and expectations
  • Perform other event-related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Current High School student in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Interest in theater, events, technology, music, production, or customer service preferred
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends based on event schedules
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Interest or experience in theater productions, stage crew, sound, lighting, or audiovisual technology
  • Basic familiarity with microphones, speakers, stage equipment, or event setup
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and move throughout the auditorium during events
  • Ability to work in dim lighting and backstage environments

Work Schedule:

Work schedules are based on auditorium event needs and may include:

  • Evenings
  • Weekends
  • School concerts and performances
  • Community events
  • Graduation and special ceremonies

 Pay Rate:  This position will be paying $12.50 per hour and is a non-exempt position.
