Job Summary
This is an accounting/finance internship for the UM-Flint Financial Services & Contracts Office. It is for the 2026-2027 academic year and open to all UM-Flint School of Management Accounting & Finance students in their Junior/Senior year. This internship also qualifies for UM-Flint's academic internship requirement of 3 credit hours towards graduation.
Responsibilities*
  • Internal Controls - Review and document departmental processes with the Campus Controller, strengthening skills in auditing, compliance, and policy analysis.
  • Departmental Support - Run reports and provide financial analysis for the Cashiers/Student Accounts Office.
  • Accounting Reconciliation - Work with accountants to reconcile accounts using M-Pathways and Banner, developing accuracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Collection Support - Review student accounts and prepare documentation for collections.
  • Third-Party Billing - Validate vouchers and prepare invoices for outside organizations covering tuition payments.
  • Cash Auditing - Assist with auditing petty and imprest cash drawers across departments.
  • Journal Entries-Support accounting staff in preparing monthly entries.
  • Professional Development - Attend financial meetings and training sessions to build communication and teamwork skills.

Required Qualifications*
  • UM-Flint FALL 2026 Internship for UMF School of Management Accounting or Finance Students in their Junior to Senior year ONLY!
  • Available to work 20-24 hours per week during office hours 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday for the Fall 2026 through Winter 2027 academic terms.
