As of Jul 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for audiologist pay in the United States is $87,247.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $70,500.00 and $98,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Where do audiologists make the most money?

Audiologists tend to earn the highest salaries in metropolitan areas with a high cost of living and greater demand for healthcare services, such as large urban centers. Factors like experience, specialization, and working in private practices or hospitals can also influence earning potential.

How much do audiologists typically get paid?

Audiologist salaries can vary depending on factors such as location, experience, education, and type of employer. In the United States, the median annual wage for audiologists was about $82,680 as of 2022, with most earning between $63,000 and $106,000 per year. Audiologists working in hospitals or private practices may earn differently compared to those in schools or government agencies. Additionally, audiologists with more experience or specialized certifications may command higher salaries.

Do audiologists make more than nurses?

Audiologists typically earn higher median salaries than registered nurses due to specialized training in hearing and balance disorders. While nurses often have a broader range of roles and work in various healthcare settings, audiologists usually require a doctoral degree and work in clinics or hospitals, which can influence salary differences.

Is a career in audiology worth it?

A career in audiology offers stable employment opportunities, typically requires a master's or doctoral degree, and involves working with patients to diagnose and treat hearing and balance disorders. Audiologists often work in healthcare settings with regular hours and use specialized equipment, making it a rewarding field for those interested in healthcare and communication sciences.

What factors can influence an audiologist's pay, and how might compensation change with experience or specialization?

Audiologist pay can vary depending on several factors, including years of experience, geographic location, type of employer (such as hospitals, private practices, or schools), and additional certifications or specializations. For example, audiologists who work in metropolitan areas or specialized medical centers often earn higher salaries than those in rural settings. Gaining experience, pursuing advanced credentials, and taking on supervisory or leadership roles can also lead to increased compensation over time. Additionally, audiologists who specialize in areas like pediatric audiology, cochlear implants, or balance disorders may command higher salaries due to their expertise.

Hearing aid specialists typically have lower educational requirements and focus on fitting and selling hearing aids. The pay difference reflects these roles' credentials and responsibilities within the hearing healthcare industry.

Is audiology in high demand?

Audiology is a growing field with increasing demand due to an aging population and greater awareness of hearing health. Audiologists are employed in healthcare settings, clinics, and hospitals, and the profession generally offers good job stability and opportunities for specialization. Certification and advanced skills can enhance employment prospects in this expanding industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Audiologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Audiologist, you need a doctoral degree in audiology (Au.D.), state licensure, and expertise in hearing assessment and auditory disorders. Familiarity with audiometric equipment, hearing aid fitting software, and patient management systems is typically required.
