Job description

SMX is seeking a Senior VTC Engineer to serve as the technical lead for the design, integration, sustainment, and lifecycle management of secure Audio Visual (AV) and Video Teleconference (VTC) systems supporting Department of Defense operations. This position provides engineering expertise for enterprise collaboration technologies, leads complex installations and modernization efforts, and ensures reliable communications across classified and unclassified environments while serving as a trusted technical advisor to government stakeholders.

This is a full-time onsite position in Ft. Gordon, GA.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering, installation, integration, testing, sustainment, and modernization of enterprise AV/VTC systems.
  • Design and implement secure VTC solutions supporting classified and unclassified communications.
  • Perform site surveys, develop technical designs, and recommend lifecycle refresh strategies for AV/VTC infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network-related VTC issues.
  • Configure, maintain, and administer Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Meeting Server, Extron, Crestron, and AMX technologies.
  • Apply DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and cybersecurity best practices to collaboration systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff while serving as the primary engineering liaison with Government customers.
  • Support executive-level conferences, special events, and mission-critical communications.
  • Develop technical documentation, engineering drawings, SOPs, and lifecycle plans.
  • Support inventory management, equipment accountability, reporting, and technology refresh initiatives.

Required Skills, Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 12-15 years of progressively responsible AV/VTC engineering experience supporting enterprise or DoD environments.
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and sustaining Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Meeting Server, Extron, Crestron, and AMX collaboration technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise networking concepts including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, routing, switching, QoS, SIP, H.323, and related protocols.
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs and supporting secure DoD collaboration environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault isolation skills across hardware, software, networking, and conferencing technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with senior military and civilian leadership.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification).
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility/access.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience supporting Intelligence Community or Special Operations environments.
  • Experience with PKI, DITSCAP/RMF, Zero Trust architectures, and secure unified communications.
  • Experience with multi-level security (MLS) or multi-security classified VTC environments.
  • Knowledge of KIV-7 encryption devices and secure IP video transport.
  • Experience with Tandberg, Polycom, and Cisco collaboration platforms.
  • Familiarity with TIA structured cabling standards and commercial AV infrastructure design.
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), wireless collaboration technologies, and AV control systems.
  • Cisco Collaboration, CCNP Collaboration, Crestron, Extron, or AMX certifications.
  • Project leadership experience managing enterprise AV modernization or technology refresh initiatives.
