Teacher Aide - Grades 7-12

2026-2027 School Year

Locations:

  • Irondequoit High School
  • Dake Junior High School

Position Summary

This position includes a variety of student supervision and support responsibilities, including study halls, cafeteria supervision, hall monitoring, visitor check-ins, and other supervisory or staff support duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility with daily assignments

Salary

Appropriate placement on the WITA Paraprofessional Salary Schedule:
$17.00 - $17.75 per hour

Teacher Aide - Job Description (NYSUT)

Definition

Teacher Aides perform non-instructional duties under supervision determined by the local school district, in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Certification

Certification is not required. Employment is subject to New York State Civil Service laws.

Duties

The following duties are provided as guidance in determining the appropriate role of Teacher Aides:

  • Preparing scripts for recording purposes
  • Assisting in oversight and technical operation of language and/or computer laboratories
  • Supporting physical care tasks and health-related activities, as appropriate
  • Assisting students with behavioral or management needs
  • Supporting laboratory setup, assisting with experiments, and conducting limited reviews of student lab reports
  • Assisting in the preparation and production of media programs
  • Reading to students and using audio-visual materials (primarily in lower grades)
  • Assisting with proctoring and exam administration tasks
  • Assisting in correcting test papers, recording grades, maintaining files, and preparing reports
  • Managing records, materials, and equipment
  • Supervising students
