Job Description
The Healthcare Simulation Operator is a technical role within the Department of Nursing, reporting directly to the Lab Manager. This position provides essential technical and audio-visual support for simulation operations, ensuring the use of best practices to enhance student learning.
Non-Instructional Role Clarification- The position of Healthcare Simulation Operator is NOT a teaching, educational, or instructional position. In compliance with the Nevada State Board of Nursing an instructor must have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Nursing to teach. Operators are not permitted to provide any clinical instruction, evaluate student performance, provide clinical feedback, or teach clinical content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Technical Operations: Operate and maintain a wide range of high-fidelity simulators and healthcare simulation equipment
  • Software Management: Utilize and troubleshoot simulation software such as Laerdal LLEAP, SimCapture, KBPort, Sim2Gro, and SimX VR.
  • Scenario Preparation: Program requested healthcare simulations and prepare the physical environment, including the application of moulage to manikins to enhance realism.
  • Best Practices: Align all simulation practices with the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP).
  • Operational Support: Assist with the pre-briefing and debriefing process by managing audio/visual equipment
  • Maintenance & Inventory: Provide scheduled maintenance and maintain equipment checklists,
  • Communication: Act as a technical liaison for faculty and students, and communicate articulately with vendors and service providers regarding complex technical issues.
  • Key responsibilities include the setup, breakdown, programming, and operation of healthcare simulations, manikins, and data capture systems.
  • The individual in this position must be able to communicate with diverse groups of faculty and students.
  • The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented critical thinker capable of troubleshooting complex equipment in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical Proficiency: Moderate to advanced knowledge of computer hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to assess, troubleshoot, and repair equipment in an emergent manner during live simulations.
  • Professional Ethics: Adherence to the Healthcare Simulationists Code of Ethics.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work effectively with diverse groups within a high-pressure clinical environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in a related profession as a simulation operator or a comparable role.
  • Skilled in the use of computer software, hardware, basic applications and audio-visual equipment
  • Ability to travel to multi-campus sites as needed
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation and maintenance of healthcare simulators/ manikins and moulage application
  • Clinical knowledge and experience in a healthcare field (e.g., CNA, RRT, LPN, RN, EMT, or Paramedic).
  • Moderate to advanced knowledge and experience in assessing, troubleshooting and repairing hardware software and equipment in urgent situations.
