Audio Systems Engineer, Robot Head
San Carlos (on-site)

The Role
As an Audio Systems Engineer, you will own the full audio hardware and firmware pipeline. You will be responsible for hands-on design, prototyping, and system integration while working closely with software, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and industrial design teams. You'll design and optimize microphone and speaker systems to ensure clear, reliable audio performance in diverse real-world conditions. Working closely with software teams, you will integrate Direction of Arrival (DOA), Voice Activity Detection (VAD), noise suppression, signal processing, and ML-based audio features. Your contributions will be essential to enabling seamless human-robot interaction.
You Will
  • Design and tune microphone and speaker systems for optimal performance in noisy and dynamic environments
  • Build and test audio hardware using oscilloscopes, anechoic chambers, and audio analysis tools
  • Collaborate with software teams on real-time streaming, signal processing, noise reduction, and ML-powered audio features
  • Conduct field tests, gather performance data, and iterate based on findings
  • Own the full audio hardware and firmware pipeline from initial concept through production deployment
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure system-level integration and functionality

Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience designing audio hardware systems, including microphones and speakers
  • Strong hands-on skills with audio hardware testing and measurement tools
  • Proficiency with real-time audio streaming, signal processing, and noise reduction techniques
  • Ability to analyze field test data and iterate on system performance
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including software and mechanical engineering
  • Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to audio quality
  • Able to work full-time on-site

Preferred & Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with embedded systems and firmware fundamentals
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to audio processing
  • Consumer electronics experience
  • Factory testing experience
