Job description

Technology Systems Designer (Audio / Low Voltage)

Twin Cities, MN (On-Site) | Direct Hire | $85,000–$110,000

Konik is partnering with a collaborative, design-focused consulting firm to add a Technology Systems Designer to their team. This role is a key succession opportunity, supporting the transition of a long-tenured systems designer and working closely with leadership to carry forward critical institutional knowledge.

This position is heavily focused on audio system design within institutional environments, with additional exposure to AV, security, and low-voltage infrastructure. It's ideal for someone who understands how systems are physically designed and installed in buildings, not someone coming strictly from IT or backend networking.

Technology Systems Designer Responsibilities

  • Design and layout audio systems for auditoriums, gyms, lecture spaces, and classroom environments
  • Develop system designs including signal flow (microphone → processing → amplification → speaker) and equipment selection
  • Support design of additional low-voltage systems including AV, paging/intercom, security, and fire alarm
  • Produce drawings and system layouts using AutoCAD and related tools
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project teams to integrate systems into overall building design
  • Participate in specification development and ensure alignment with project requirements and codes
  • Attend project meetings and support client interaction
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously

Technology Systems Designer Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in audio, AV, or low-voltage systems design
  • Strong understanding of audio system design and signal flow in commercial or institutional environments
  • Experience designing systems for K-12, higher education, theaters, or similar environments
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit/BIM exposure a plus)
  • Understanding of how systems are installed in real-world construction environments

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to structured cabling, data systems, or security system design
  • RCDD, CTS, or similar certifications (not required)
  • Experience working in consulting engineering or design environments
  • Familiarity with spec-driven design and construction documentation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $85,000–$110,000
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • 401(k) with company contribution tied to profitability
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Strong long-term growth and stability within a niche, in-demand discipline
