At Bose Corporation, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth - and for over 60 years, we have been a company built on innovation, excellence, and independence. Privately owned, fiercely customer-focused, and driven by our values, we continue to lead industries and transform lives through sound.

Today, Bose Corporation is entering an exciting new era. Across multiple global Business Units and Global Functions, we are shaping the future of audio technology, automotive, luxury, and premium experiences. We invite you to join us in this transformation.

Job Description

At Bose, we've spent more than 50 years finding new ways to bring quality audio products to people-in their homes, in automobiles, in airplanes, and just about anywhere else that there is a possibility to enjoy music. Our legendary Wave music system, SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker, or QuietComfort acoustic noise cancelling headphones may ring a bell with you. Bose relies on outstanding people to build and deliver those products, and we are looking for that next individual to join our team and contribute to delivering phenomenal experiences to customers. We are also expanding beyond our typical customer reach. The Audio Technology Licensing business unit is turning core pieces of our technology, both existing and cutting edge innovations, into products that we can offer to customers in areas such as Bluetooth speakers, banded headphones, and earbuds as well as devices like phones and projectors. The Audio Technology Engineering team is an exciting place to be as we reinvent what it means to deliver differentiating experiences and value to our customers.

Summary:

As a Senior Audio Systems Engineer for the Audio Technology Engineering team, you'll lead product development activities as we deliver audio technology, services, algorithms, and software to our customers and partners. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact and engineering lead interfacing with myriad internal functions spanning engineering subject matter experts, project management, business development, finance, legal, marketing, product development along with our customers and their contract manufacturers. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer to lead the design of new Bose products working with engineers across Bose and external partners.

Hybrid Working Environment: 3-days/week on-site presence is required.

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer will develop products that contain a high degree of system complexity while leading cross-functional engineering teams and interfacing directly with technology partners to design products meeting customer needs, development cost targets, and safety/regulatory requirements. The candidate must have product development experience in at least one of the following fields: consumer electronics, automotive, defense industry, medical device, or a related industry.

This role requires technical proficiency in consumer acoustical systems spanning acoustics, digital signal processing, algorithm development, mechanical and electrical elements of hardware, SoCs, digital signal processors, software, and firmware. You will also need strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage external customers and their contract manufacturers as well as the numerous internal disciplines listed in the summary.

On a day to day basis, you will lead the execution of product development engineering plans. In conjunction with program management, you'll coordinate work streams across internal and external engineering teams. You'll proactively identify engineering issues/risks and drive resolution by coordinating engineering teams, program management, and product management. You'll assess and establish feasibility of plans by working with senior engineers. You will also collaborate with subject matter experts and product development teams on creating and finalizing software and algorithms as products that we can deliver to our customers.

This role offers a unique opportunity to do the most impactful work of your career. If the prospect of making a positive tangible impact on millions of people excites you, and you enjoy working on teams with other really smart people, then we want to meet you.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience in the firmware, DSP, and algorithm development areas (audio algorithm development a plus).

  • 2+ years of leading successful cross-functional engineering teams working on projects spanning initial development through product launch.

  • B.S. degree in Software, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to run a highly technical team of multi-disciplinary engineers.

  • Proven track record of systems engineering for sophisticated electronics devices.

  • Technical problem-solving skills that combine evidence with intuition.

  • History of clearly defined engineering deliverables being completed on time, within budget, and product-cost targets while meeting internal and regulatory requirements.

  • Communication: You can distill numerous and complex ideas down to simple messages. A consistent track record driving cohesion and collaboration among many different people and functions. You know how to empower and influence others.

  • Ability to ensure development processes and supporting documentation follow internal Bose and external partner requirements.

  • Experience building AI/ML solutions for audio products.

  • Hands-on firmware (C) and real-time audio DSP development experience.

  • Experience with system-level audio processing architecture, design, tuning, and testing.

  • Experience with DSP algorithm design, optimization, and validation using Matlab, Simulink, or similar.

  • Development and deployment of software or algorithms as products.
