Job description

In Apple Acoustics we work with obsessive attention to detail, directly contributing to products that ship to millions of people around the world. Our Transducer Engineering team designs speakers that are integrated into all Apple products. We are a diverse team of acoustics and speaker design experts, accomplished listeners, and creative problem solvers. We work cross functionally with other acoustic engineers as well as mechanical engineers, system engineers, industrial designers, audio tuners and components suppliers/vendors to conceptualize and create transducers that enhance the audio experience for our customers.
Description
You will be working with a team of people passionate about audio and delivering the best possible user experience. You will drive all aspects of transducer design and development and help our manufacturing partners scale production and testing. The role involves linear and non-linear computer simulation of electromagnetic, acoustics and structural mechanics. You will optimize each design aspect for our custom transducers and work with other cross-functional teams (product design, mechanical engineering, audio tuning, audio integration, manufacturing, etc) to deliver great audio.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong background in acoustic principles (sound propagation, wave behavior and resonators), vibration and electromechanical systems.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis software COMSOL (electromagnetic, structural mechanics and acoustics) for simulations and analysis.
Working knowledge of lumped-parameter simulation methods and tools, as implemented in either equivalent circuit simulators or System Dynamics simulators (MATLAB and Simulink).
Experience with 3D solid modeling and meshing tools.
A self-disciplined creative problem-solver and communicator who works cross functionally, with the ability to work on fast-paced multiple projects at the same time and prioritize.
Ability to travel internationally.
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Audio/Acoustic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Audio/Acoustic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science preferred.
Experience with transducer design and testing (from single suspension micro speaker design to professional speakers) and understanding of loudspeaker design methods (and tradeoffs such as power, dimensions and cost).
Experience with speaker components and materials, assembly techniques and process, failure analysis and integration into products through prototype to mass production builds.
Ability to work with manufacturing suppliers/vendors on DFM from early design phase to prototyping and mass production.
Useful but not required: Experience with Speaker LPM and nonlinear parameters measurements systems like Klippel.
