The Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading new audio architecture product development and integration activities. You will also develop new audio system architecture and strategy followed by design, development, validation and release of Audio Systems into General Motors vehicles across the globe. The components released may include Speakers, Audio DSP Module, Amplifiers, PFAF Modules/Speakers, and Microphones. Ready for the challenge? Apply today!

What You'll Do:

  • Support / Lead the development of a new audio architecture strategy in partnership with other SMEs
  • Ensure that new audio architecture is efficient from a cost perspective and scalable for future feature implementation
  • Ensure this same architecture can support full range of audio solutions with significantly improved performance without a cost penalty to base systems
  • Apply DFSS and other tools to develop and select the best solutions for the new audio architecture
  • Mentor and train and new audio employees entering the organization
  • Support / Lead the more complex challenging new programs which implement the new Audio Architecture vehicles target for SDV
  • Direct suppliers during the sourcing tech reviews and development stages
  • Resolve a wide-range of new architecture issues / challenges related to up integration of audio features
  • Craft and approve new Component Technical Specifications (CTS) & Statement of Requirements (SOR) and support sourcing activities and technical related to new audio architecture
  • Leads technical direction over supplier/supplier engineers and engineering support personnel
  • Lead and direct supplier resident engineers in release activities
  • Work with the TS Tech Specialist to fine tune and implement system requirements, participate in the selection of the right suppliers, and optimize integration into vehicles
  • Lead overall communication, coordination and consultation with engineering departments and customers
  • Participate in compartment integration team discussions and finding balanced design solutions that meet audio system performance requirements
  • Defend Audio/Video System Performance Requirements and Audio System Strategy at Program Specific meetings such as CIT's, POPS, VAPIR
  • Develop software and hardware development plans
  • Ensure all audio system imperatives are met
  • Build and balance requirements across systems
  • Represent GM in vendor and/or customer contacts
  • Release final designs for manufacturing or purchase as appropriate
  • Manage new vehicle programs with most complex new audio systems
  • Consult and advise in peer reviews
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products

At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.
As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.
Resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.
Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
Skilled and proficient with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
Rely mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals.
You will perform multiple tasks. Lead and likely direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related degree
  • 5+ experience as a DRE or direct engineering experience within infotainment
  • Specific knowledge of engineering field (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area
  • Experience with automotive electrical systems and functional sub-systems
  • Previous experience mentoring / training newer engineers
  • Experience with common electrical test equipment (meter, scopes, etc.)
  • Experience with the GMLAN serial data communication protocol
  • Knowledgeable of A2B, ETHERNET, LAN, and
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to Audio Systems

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills):
