Training/Arrival Period (Required):
  • Move-in to the Residence Halls, Wednesday, September 2nd; 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • New Student Move-in: Friday, September 4; 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Move-in Transition: Saturday, September 5 - Sunday, September 6
    • Dates without timeframes will be defined for the staff member during the Training.

Supervisor: Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct/Designee
Wage Range: $12.00-13.00/hour
I. Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): The Creative Branding & Fashion Assistant will work closely with the Resident Life staff to develop unique and engaging events that foster a sense of community and contribute to the overall well-being of students living on campus. Creating new and innovative event concepts that match Resident Life's aims and values and contribute to a dynamic campus community.
II.Transferable Skills:
  • Time Management: Prioritizing daily boutique tasks and scheduling major campus events efficiently
  • Adaptability: Staying flexible and handling sudden changes during live events and busy move-in days
  • Creative Innovation: Designing unique branding plans, seasonal clothing collections, and new event concepts
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Working with staff, managing event volunteers, and delegating store duties clearly

III.Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Event Planning & Activations:
  • Plan and execute on-campus events, such as housing open houses, move-in/out initiatives, and student panels
  • Organize fashion shows, pop-up shops, and merchandising activations for the boutique
  • Manage event logistics, including venue booking, A/V setup, and volunteer coordination

  1. Fashion Boutique Management:
  • Oversee daily retail operations of the campus fashion boutique, including inventory management, visual merchandising, and styling
  • Train student staff or volunteers on cashiering, customer service, and retail best practices.
  • Curate seasonal collections, manage vendor or donation communications, and track sales analytics

  1. Event Planning and Conceptualization:
  • Work with Resident Life staff to determine the event's objectives, target audience, and intended outcomes.

  1. Coordination and Logistics:
  • Coordination of all event logistics, including department selection, food, audio-visual equipment, and other resources

  1. Marketing and promotion:
  • Create marketing materials and tactics to effectively promote university-wide events
  • To promote interest and attendance, use a variety of communication methods such as social media, flyers, and email

IV. Requirements of This Position (Education):
  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at St. Olaf College during the academic year and maintain good standing in academics and conduct
  • Must maintain a cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5. If a student staff member's GPA (semester/cumulative) falls below 2.5, their retention will be based on individual consultation
  • Students should have no pending cases, active sanctions, and/or resolved cases that would prevent effective performance as student staff members

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of marketing, branding, and communications.
  • Understanding of branding through digital and graphic design.
  • Ability to provide design aesthetics recommendations for social media platforms and websites.
  • Ability to direct creative content creation.
  • Understanding of fashion trends, current media, and the evolving digital landscape.
  • Experience with event production, fashion shows, and photoshoot coordination.
  • Ability to create marketing materials and tactics to effectively promote university-wide events.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate event logistics in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Residence Life staff, student employees, and volunteers
