Job description

Summary: Responsible for working in collaboration with the manufacturing team to operate a wide variety of CNC mills and lathes by performing the following duties.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calculates dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometers or vernier calipers.
  • Machines parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Sets up, adjusts, or operates machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
  • Measures, examines, or tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
  • Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Maintains machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.
  • Operates equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Checks work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and/or cooled.
  • Diagnoses machine tool malfunctions to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Confers with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Disposes of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Separates scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
  • Evaluates machining procedures and recommends changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability.
  • Supports metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and maintains all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
  • Ensures that safe work practices are followed and adhered.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years of precision machining experience required.

 

Specialized Training:

  • Vo-tech
  • On-the-job training will be provided for specific job assignments

 

Equipment:

  • High-gage, Indicator, and Forklift
  • CNC machines such as turning tools, boring bars, threaders, ID and/or OD, end mills, face mills, and boring head
  • Precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height stand, threaded plug gauges, ring gauges, gauge pins, radius gauges, ID micrometers, bore gauges, and ID calipers
  • Manual and/or hand equipment such as drill press, dotco, Bridgeport mill, manual lathe, and drimmel

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
