Job description

The International Institute of New England is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving refugees and immigrants in Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, and Manchester, NH. The Institute offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee, asylee, and immigrant populations. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.

All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system:

  • Summer Internship: June through mid-August 2026
    (Applications requested by May 2; considered thereafter until positions are filled)

First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.

Please note that this internship will be a hybrid format, meaning that some in-person hours at our Boston, MA office are required.

Quality Assurance Internship Overview

As a Quality Assurance Intern, you will work closely with the Data & Impact Manager to summarize missing data components and enhance the Programs teams Apricot database. Your responsibilities will include understanding how data is stored, transitioning data to further information, spot checking for missing data points, generating case note reports for quality checks, and creating/implementing new tutorials and trainings.

Reports To: Data & Impact Manager

Location: Boston, MA

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide data entry and quality assurance support to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the Apricot database.
  • Understand new and current Programs contracts to support training needs.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Impact Manager in drafting and updating user tutorials and training for both new and existing processes.
  • Contribute to the generation of simple reports to track key metrics and performance indicators within the Apricot database, under the guidance of the Data & Impact Manager.
  • Work on an ongoing documentation clean-up project.
  • Engage with Program policy training and data evaluation team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Interest in international, refugee, asylee, and/or immigrant issues.
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Experience with data entry strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with databases, especially in the context of non-profits, preferred.
  • Understanding of spreadsheets, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both collaboratively in a team and independently.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the internship, the Quality Assurance Intern will:

  • Gain hands-on experience in maintaining and improving a social work database for a refugee-focused nonprofit.
  • Understand data clean-up procedures and quality assurance protocols within the Apricot platform, specifically tailored to support social services efforts.
  • Develop skills in drafting and updating training to ensure streamlined processes.
  • Learn how to independently support quality assurance by categorizing and organizing data for accurate reporting.
