Job description

Position Title: Graphic Designer Employment Status: Full Time - 38 hours

Position Summary:

The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating high-quality visual assets that promote and enhance It Is Written's mission, programs, events, and products. This role involves creatively designing both print and digital materials to effectively communicate to and engage with the desired audience while maintaining brand standards. It is crucial that this position supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions.

Authority & Accountability:

Authority as delegated by and directly accountable to the Director of Creative Services in accordance with It Is Written's policies and objectives.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Meet regularly with the Director of Creative Services to review work assignments, provide suggestions for improvement, and assist in the planning of projects.
  • Create a range of visual assets with minimal supervision, based on concepts, including print materials, digital advertisements, event and project signage, social media graphics, webpages, presentations, infographics, and internal communication materials.
  • Follow established brand guidelines and apply visual standards consistently across all materials as warranted by the project.
  • Conceptualize original and unique designs and illustrations.
  • Effectively use and stay current on design tools and industry trends.
  • Complete work assignments and provide deliverables within the agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Format, export, and prepare final design files for digital platforms, print vendors, and internal use by other departments, following guidelines for file management.
  • Participate in creative planning sessions, briefings, review cycles, brainstorming sessions, and feedback meetings to refine deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other department staff to conceptualize and execute creative solutions that can be translated across various media platforms.
  • Participate in pre- and post-production quality checks and provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other team members to maintain department documents, creative assets, process improvements, and inter-departmental reminders.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to improve workflow efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Be available to meet in person for Creative Services team meetings, project meetings, and in collaboration with team members from other departments.
  • Fulfill other related responsibilities and duties as assigned.


    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

    Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of Duties:

    • Education:

    A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

    A bachelor's degree in graphic arts, design, communications, or a related field is preferred.

    • Experience:

    Two to four (2-4) years of experience in graphic design, either with an agency or organization.

    • Skills, scope, and complexity of duties:
      • Proficient in the use of office suite software, such as Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite.
      • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (Creative Cloud), with the ability to adapt to new technologies and software.
      • Possesses creativity and innovative design skills in accordance with the job duties of a Graphic Designer.
      • Demonstrates aesthetics and attention to detail with the capacity to visually represent ideas and concepts.
      • Ability to sketch and brainstorm with Creative Services colleagues.
      • Shows high flexibility and adaptability to handle urgent projects, shifting priorities, and deadlines.
      • Needs to be a self-starter with good judgment, capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, making timely decisions, assuming responsibility as needed, and consistently meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills with team members and external parties.
      • Possesses superior time-management, multitasking, and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
      • Be willing to participate in training when offered.
