Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Creative Director, this position is responsible for creating and revising designs for the Federation; liaising with managers, clients and printers; overseeing all aspects of design both for web and print production; Able to multitask with end result of bringing many graphic design projects to completion with accuracy, efficiency, and consistently meeting deadlines.


Duties and Responsibilities:

In-house design of visual communications:

  • Assists Creative Director with design creation and magazine production & branding.
  • Communicates with in-house clients regarding design needs.
  • Fulfills design work orders for a variety of visual communication projects including the design and development of e-blast images, media kits, promotional materials, web banners/pages, logos, social media, and other media publications.
  • Revises and reviews forms/documents to ensure branding is consistent.
  • Obtains price quotes from external printing companies.
  • Communicates with printing companies regarding printing requirements and status of printing projects.
  • Adheres to project timelines and verifies all deadlines are being met
  • Provides status reports to management and others as necessary.
  • Consults with IT department regarding web design requirements.
  • Designs and creates editorial sections for US Equestrian magazine.
  • Participates in staff meetings regarding magazine content.
  • Designs ads for advertisers as requested.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and/or upper management.
  • Delegating design tasks as needed and providing support for junior level designer(s)
  • Attend meetings as needed if the Creative Director is unable to be present.
  • Process and approve vendor & freelance invoices as needed.
  • Branding of visual communications is consistent with Marketing objectives and guidelines.
  • Designs are created within required timeframes.
  • Relationships with managers, clients and printers result in quality design production and minimized costs. Attend press checks as needed.
  • Knowledge of design programs and techniques is kept current.
  • Attention to visual details
  • Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to combine various colors, fonts and layouts


Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional written communication skills (i.e. spelling, grammar, proper formatting, proofreading, e-mail etiquette, etc.).
  • Proficient in Illustrator in creating and manipulating vector images.
  • Proficient in Photoshop to manipulate photographs and other digital images.
  • Proficient in InDesign in the layout of digital and print publications
  • Knowledge of social media design.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate creativity in design.
  • Excellent time management skills working in a fast paced team environment.
  • Adaptable quick learner who is highly self-motivated.
  • Able to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects at one time and meet tight deadlines.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in graphic design or closely related field such as Visual Communications, Graphic Technology, Web Design, Art, Advertising, etc.
  • Associateโ€™s degree in aforementioned fields plus three to five years of experience or six years of directly related experience alone may substitute for Bachelorโ€™s Degree.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator is required.
  • Experience with After Effects is a plus but not required.
  • Three to five years of graphic design experience in an in-house creative department or design firm is preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of sedentary work at a computer
  • Must be capable of fine, repetitive hand movements such as would be used in controlling a computer mouse.
