The Energy & Power Division writes a broad portfolio of upstream, midstream, downstream, renewable energy and power risks on a global basis. Our current team has 28 employees across four office locations in London, Texas, the UAE and Singapore and our commitment to technical underwriting supports our decision making alongside experienced engineering expertise. What you'll be doing:

  • Work with the Head of 1st Party Energy in the US and our energy colleagues to underwrite onshore energy risks in the North American market in order to build a long-term profitable business.
  • Working alongside our existing Mid & Downstream product leaders to underwrite and manage a portfolio of onshore energy and associated downstream property. Demonstrate sound underwriting judgement whilst continuously scrutinizing performance against plan and adjust approach as required
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and with broker counterparts externally
  • Conduct thorough and regular whole-account assessments and make informed underwriting decisions steering the portfolio towards constant profitability.
  • Monitor aggregates, including catastrophe management, within corporate thresholds and maximum capacities whilst technically rating premium data on the company systems.
  • Prioritize customer experience with best-in-class response times to all stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion continuous development of future associates to ensure all team members reach their potential. Help recruit, develop, mentor and provide performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Be active in marketing onshore energy products, including domestic travel and any international as required
  • Act as a conduit to the International team for input from Brokers, Underwriters and external marketing teams to develop compelling growth propositions
  • Ensure all new and existing products comply with both legal and regulatory requirements

What we're looking for:

  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience, including education or technical training
  • Foundational knowledge of property and business interruption underwriting concepts
  • Exposure to or interest in energy and/or property risks (petrochemical, manufacturing, midstream/downstream), or a background in chemical, industrial, manufacturing, or energy environments (academic or professional)
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to basic risk assessment and underwriting decisions
  • Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across teams
  • Interest in developing expertise in complex property and energy risks across diverse client segments
