Job description

The FlukeProduct Compliance team is seeking a Safety/RadioTest Engineer toprotectbusiness growth by accessing, testing and obtaining relevant certificates for new and existing products. Fluke is the world leader in professional electronic test tools and software; your work will help keep the world up and running by developing and sustaining rugged, reliable, and safe test and measurement tools used by professionals in critical and fast-growing industries such as solar power and electric vehicle service equipment.

Reporting to the manager of theProduct Compliance Team your responsibilities will be as follows.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate new product designs, support engineering changes to existing designs, and evaluate legacy equipment against constantly evolving standards.
  • Determinefunctional, environmental, and/orcompliancetest requirements and applicability of tests, equipment, and facilities. Define and complete test plans and document results in compliance with ISO 17025.
  • Evaluate progress of tests for validity of test conditions, means of measurement and performance of components or equipment in relation to specifications or requirements of harmonized standards.
  • Review and document test results; take corrective action as needed. Analyzecomponentfailures; recommend alternate components or design changes.
  • Author and defend test reportssubmittedinternational certification bodies such as CSA and ETL.
  • Specify, select and/or design laboratory test equipment vital to complete equipment assessment;assistin preparation of documents to enable fabrication of new test equipment; write operating/verification procedures for new laboratory equipment and build preventative maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Review and evaluate new product designs, support engineering changes to existing designs, and evaluate legacy equipment againstFCC/IC/EU(RED) set ofstandards.
  • Work with 3rdparty test laboratories to obtain accredited certifications for Radioand EMC.
  • Consult withnewproductintroduction team todetermineradiocertification plan,timelineand cost.
  • Adviseonsuitability of selected radiomoduleandROI for global market access of new products in development.
  • Sustain regional radiocertificationsasrequired due to certificate expiration or changing regulations or requirements.
  • Working knowledge of RFand wireless technologies including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,andZigbee.
  • Basic understanding of metrology and how to interpret laboratory equipment specifications and suitability for measurement needs.
  • Basic electronics skills includingRLC, op amp, diode, and transistor circuit analysis.
  • Comfortable with understanding, interpreting, and applying generalized test procedures and standards towidevariety of specific product applications.
  • Strong background in MS Office and other software tools including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Miroetc.)experience in formatting and document manipulationa must. Document automation, template creation,VBA/Python/macro writing experiencea benefit.
  • Strong language and communication skills including technical writing, user documentation review and editing along with clear and concise communication through email, MS Teams, phone conversations, and instant messaging.
  • Comfortable training other associates onuseof laboratory equipment. ‘See one, do one, teach one’ mentality.
  • Solid understanding of basic physics and physical concepts a necessity including ac/dc voltage, electrical current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power, energy, force, acceleration, temperature, pressure, heat transfer, etc. Working knowledge of high frequency RF a plus.
  • Strong background using a wide variety of test equipment including multimeters, calibrators, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, current clamps, and thermometers with an understanding of their capabilities and limitations. Able to select the proper equipment for each task/measurement with limitedassistance.
  • Should be able to disassemble and reassemble sophisticated test and measurement and laboratory equipment without instructions or damaging the equipment tofacilitatedesign review, prep for laboratory testing and failure analysis.
  • Comfortable with work around high voltage,high temperature, high pressure, flammable materials, and other potentially hazardous test environments whereappropriate safetyprecautions must be rigorously followed.
  • Comfortable analyzing schematics and wiring diagrams to understand basic concepts of circuit function, potential sources of failure, and components and subsystems relied upon for protection against hazards.
  • Normal office and laboratory environments. Extra hours may berequiredfor meeting commitments but should be considered atypical. Opportunity to work from home 2 days per week depending on laboratory workload requirements. Travel less than 5%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorsdegree in Electrical Engineering or higher recommended. Other engineering/physical science degrees may be acceptable with suitable laboratory or other relevant electrical/electronicsexperience per below.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in product safety, RF compliance or EMC evaluation,electronicsdesign, or relevant laboratory work towards product compliance safety evaluation. Experience with third party certificationlaboratoriessuch as UL, CSA, TUV, Interteketca plus.
  • Program management skills in driving certification labs, effectively prioritizingcertificationrequirementsand achieving deadlines.
