Job description

Leidos, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to support the development of a Thermal Protection System (TPS) as part of the nation's leading Hypersonic Production Program. This program is conducted within the Leidos Defense Systems Advanced Materials Department. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

In this role, you will develop, edit, and refine technical documentation that directly supports programmatic technical deliveries on hypersonics programs. You'll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to transform complex technical data into clear, accurate, and compliant technical publications. This is a schedule critical role and requires execution to a strict timeline.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and edit technical content using and DOW DID, ASTM, AS9100, and ASME standards.
  • Produce documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-40051 requirements.
  • Translate complex engineering and quality inspection data into clear technical reports.
  • Collaborate with customer representatives and interpret contract requirements to ensure CDRL requirements are met
  • Evaluate and refine content for proper syntax, style, grammar, and tone to meet military technical publication standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or related discipline with 1-3 years of related experience. Additional years of experience, training, and/or certifications may substitute degree requirement
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex technical information into clear, user friendly written reports and documents with minimal guidance and follows government defined formatting
  • Detail oriented, ability to manage very long documents, proofread quickly, and stay focused in a fast-paced environment
  • US Citizen
  • Proficiency with XML tagging/editing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including MS Word and MS Teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Candidate must be a resident of the Colorado Springs general area or willing to relocate to the Colorado Springs area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to utilize AI to generate accurate and complete reports
  • Active security clearance at SECRET or above (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present findings to customers and upper management
  • Ability to thrive in high-stress, dynamic, and fast-paced environments
  • Experience in an AS 9100 or ISO 9001 production environment
