Description

SAIC is seeking a Mid-Level IT Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs, CO to join our team of diverse IT professionals in delivering innovative solutions to modernize and optimize critical systems for our customers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in systems engineering, strong technical acumen, and a passion for advancing enterprise IT architecture with a focus on modernization, scalability, and resilience.

The selected candidate will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and sustainment of next-generation IT systems that support mission-critical operations. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment embracing leading-edge technologies and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering & Design:

  • Perform systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, architecture design, and system integration for IT modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop functional specifications and system design documentation, ensuring alignment with business and mission needs.

Technical Implementation:

  • Implement innovative IT solutions leveraging modern technologies, such as cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization, and microservices.  

System Optimization and Maintenance:

  • Conduct system performance management, capacity planning, and funnel potential data-driven upgrades to the project pipeline.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including systems technicians/administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity specialists, to ensure system security and reliability.

Technical Documentation and Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including as-built diagrams, user guides, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to customer compliance requirements, such as NIST, RMF, etc. 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field and 5+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, systems design, and systems integration in IT environments.
  • Proficiency in modern IT platforms and tools, including cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and infrastructure automation (Puppet, Ansible, or Terraform).
  • Basic experience with military or DoD IT systems is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, system security practices, and related tools (e.g., Splunk, Tenable, or similar monitoring solutions).

Soft Skills:

  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.

Certifications:

  • A relevant IT certification is highly desirable, such as:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals/Associate, or similar.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher.
  • Must be a US Citizen, currently possess an Active Secret Clearance and have the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
